The Course Is Coordinated With The Jordan Academy For Maritime Studies

Dubai (United Arab Emirates): The Marine Agency at Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) held a course on Maritime Knowledge in association with the Jordan Academy for Maritime Studies. The course attracted participation from 16 employees hailing from various departments of the Agency.

Sultan Musabbeh Al Kutbi, Director of Registration & Licensing in the Marine Agency said that the Course was attended by 16 employees from the three departments of the Agency: Maritime Projects Dep't, Operation & Maintenance Dep't and Registration & Licensing Dep't. The Course, which was organized in collaboration with the Jordan Academy for Maritime Studies (JAMS), lasted 10 working days at a rate of 4 hours per day at the premises of Marine Agency in Silicon Oasis building. Lectures were delivered by pilot Yousef Naji Za'aiter and engineer Abdul Fattah Eisa.

"This Course is intended to supplement the qualification of Marine Agency employees and enhance their maritime knowledge & abilities. It will further their knowledge of maritime safety & environment; which rank at the top of our priorities as we go about our objective of obtaining the highest level of scientific knowledge in the field of maritime studies" said Al Kutbi.

He added: "The Course covered seven topics, namely: an introduction to marine transport industry, an introduction to ocean logy (including ocean currents, tide & hide, waves, and wind movement), types of ships and maritime units (divided into 5 categories: first by purpose (commercial ships, war ships, and service ships). Second by propulsion means, three by main turbines, four by building materials, and five by the scope of service.

Other topics included were: Maritime Stations, Ship Architecture and Ship Building for small units, key plant, support machinery, deck tools, and navigation assistance. Topics also covered maintenance & repair of ships and maritime stations; which included types of ships, international classification authorities, inspection of hull, inspection of machinery & equipment, and ship docks & facilities.

"This maritime course, as well as other similar courses held by Marine Agency, come under the goals & strategies of Dubai Government to enhance the qualification of Emiratis, and further the technical know-how of Marine Agency employees since science is the solid base for any development and we have to advocate an environment that nurtures positive and logical thinking.

Al Kutbi concluded: "The success of the Course is attributed to a plan worked out in coordination with HR Team of the Agency which seeks to upgrade the career of our employees through specialized training courses delivered by international experts and specialists in this field".

At the end of the course, Al Kutbi honored the participants who were awarded certificates approved from JAMS.
