20 % of last year accidents fatalities caused by Trucks
Dubai (UAE): The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that trucks have participated in 20% of the total number of deaths caused by traffic accidents in Dubai during last year2006.
Eng. Maitha Bin Adai Chief Executive Officer of traffic and roads Agency while appreciating the role being played by trucks during Dubai growth and developing movement as well as its rule in facilitating trade movement, has stressed that the regulations and rules to control traffic movement has took into consideration the public and economic interests, with special consideration as priority for the public safety.
She noted that the traffic safety section at traffic Department in collaboration with several community activities has prepared a comprehensive campaigns program to be implemented during this year and focuses on the safety of road users. She also urged the owners and truck drivers to avoid the committing traffic violations leads to traffic accidents which usually results for big losses for drivers, road users and trucks.
Eng. Maitha also urged the drivers not to park on the side of the road or in the non-designated areas for parking and in residential areas, and to follow the rules and regulations in this regard.
While She called upon owners of the trucks to be a positive factor in ensuring the safety of road users, stressing that the cooperation of the owners will reflect positively on the community, and save the lives and materials from losses, noting that road safety is the right and responsibility of all society members.
Accordingly, Eng. Salah Al Marzouqi, Deputy Director of the Traffic Department and Intelligent Traffic systems Manager has pointed out that many of the accidents were directly caused by the tires as drivers don't replace it even at the end of its period of validity, and most of trucks carry over loads for long distances in hot weather, which also contributes to the consumption of tiers very rapidly. He called for commitment to the specifications and standards, and quality control and not to purchase used tires, even if it looks in good conditions.
He said: that the RTA goal aims to avoid or to reduce the percentage of accidents caused by trucks to the minimum levels, as most of these accidents are due over loading the trucks or the usage of affected tires.
