The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the largest private hospital in Jeddah, and the only Saudi Arabian female member of ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), Azza Raslan, has been elected to ACCA's governing Council at her first attempt.

Azza Raslan, CFO of the 600 bed Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital, was one of ten new Council members to be elected by ACCA's global membership, taking her seat following the AGM in London on May 21. She also becomes the first Arab woman to sit on ACCA's Council.

Azza Raslan represented ACCA on the Developing Nations Committee of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) from 2006 to 2008 and is now a member of the International Accounting Education Standards Board. She is also the voluntary representative of ACCA in Saudi Arabia.

"There are a number of serious challenges which we need to address, including the impact the current global economic situation is having on students, emerging ethical issues along with educational issues.  I believe ACCA Council is the perfect platform to help formulate strategies to face those challenges and I am delighted to be able to be part of the process," said Azza Raslan.

Stephen Shields, ACCA's Head of Corporate Development for the Middle East, said: "I am delighted that our region will now additionally be represented on ACCA's global Council by Azza Raslan, who is an outstanding role model - not just in Saudi Arabia, but around the world. This is a fast growing and influential region and Azza's election to Council by fellow members from around the world is indicative of that importance."
