Dubai hosts fourth PALME Middle East DJ competition to find region's top mixer

More than 50 amateur & professional DJs from across the region will go head-to-head in Dubai for the ultimate crown of 'PALME DJ of the Year 2008'.

Already an annual institution and highlight of the Middle East DJ and club scene calendar, PALME DJ of the Year Competition, the region's top DJ competition, has drawn over 50 entries from both amateur and professional DJs as the first round of live heats are set to take place at The Lodge in Dubai, beginning on 1st April.

Alexander Heuff, Exhibition Director, PALME Middle East, commented, "The competition has become integral to the Middle East's club culture and dance scene. Pitting amateurs against accomplished professionals really does offer any young hopeful a shot at the big time. The standards are going to be exceptionally high this year and everything is now in place for a truly outstanding battle."

The PALME DJ of the Year Competition, the most prestigious title in the region, has over the years enticed the most ambitious and creative DJs to fight it out to become the undisputed number one Middle East DJ. The 2008 competition will no doubt feature an amazing display of the latest techniques, tricks and skills which are prerequisites to become the PALME DJ of the Year 2008.

Local amateurs will be the first to face-off during three grueling heats at the Lodge Dubai and those with the top three scores will then go through to the grand-finals at PALME M.E., which is being held at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre on April 27-29.

There they will be joined by their regional peers and the professionals who have already submitted their demo CDs for consideration. After the two semi-finals, a panel of judges, representing a cross-section of key industry professionals, will choose six of the best to go forward to the grand final on Tuesday April 29.

All contestants will be judged on three main criteria: technical, creativity and stage presence. In the technical section, hopefuls will have to demonstrate their overlay and mixing skills and utilise all aspects of the equipment. Creative music selection and interaction of various music styles will also be under scrutiny as well as appearance, self-confidence and showmanship.

To provide a level playing field and to stretch their creativity and technique, all contestants will need to perform on the Pioneer CDJ 1000 MK3, which is being provided by Platinum sponsor Pioneer. The judging panel comprises DJ Big Pete, Mark Wise, DJ Greg Dufton, DJ Mo, Jamal Al Sichi and Mike Bufton and other industry professionals.

The winner of the competition will receive a Pioneer CDJ 1000 MK3 professional digital turntable plus the latest Sennheiser Headphones and a chance to host a DJ slot at the Lodge. In addition a whole range of the latest DJ equipment, featuring cutting edge technology awaits the top attendees to the PALME exhibition itself with tech from Denon, Sennheiser, VV & Sons, Desert Beats, Nexo, Technics and Allen & Heath. Other key sponsors include Protec and Dynacord.
