Promotion to run till fourth quarter of 2005
Qtel announced today that it has slashed subscription fees for its Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) by 80% from QR.100 to QR.20 per month. The promotion will run till the fourth quarter of 2005, when Qtel plans to launch its 'pay per message' service.
MMS allows postpaid customers to compose, send and receive messages on their mobile phones using different forms of messages in the form of animations, photos, video clips, and sound.
"MMS is one of our popular value added services, and we are pleased to offer this promotion for our postpaid customers to enjoy with their family and friends," said Fahad Bin Jassim Al-Thani, Qtel Executive Director of Wireless Services. "For QR.20, Customers can send and receive as many MMS messages they want till we launch our 'pay per message' service."
Qtel will launch its 'pay per message' system by which customers will be charged for every successful MMS message they send. The service will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2005. Till then, customers can enjoy paying QR.20 for sending and receiving unlimited MMS messages.
Mr. Al-Thani continued on to say, "MMS is currently available for postpaid customers but we are planning to introduce the service for Hala customers by the end of the year. As MMS gets more functional and accessible it will pave the way for a broader customer experience that will soon include advanced 3G multimedia services."
Qtel recently extended the reach of its MMS service to include MMS users in Batelco (Bahrain), Wataniya (Kuwait) and MobileCom (Jordan). Qtel's MMS customers can now exchange MMS messages with customers of these operators. The cost of international messages is covered by the monthly subscription fee for MMS, and customers can send as many international messages as they want without any extra charge. The company plans to include other service operators and countries, so that MMS like SMS will have a global reach for Qtel's customers.
Mr. Al-Thani concluded by saying that the company believes that the MMS promotion will significantly enhance its ability to deliver its brand aspiration - which is to bring its customers closer together.
Postpaid and prepaid customers who have not yet subscribed to Qtel's MMS service or do not have an MMS configured handset, will receive an SMS informing them how to view the received MMS messages on the Qtel website. Alternatively, MMS customers can also directly send MMS messages to email addresses.
Postpaid customers can subscribe to MMS by visiting their nearest Qtel Customer Service Centre or by calling Qtel Customer Care on 155.
