Students from Qatar Foundation (QF) partner universities recently networked virtually with representatives from more than 40 local companies and organizations to find internships and job opportunities during the first Education City-wide Career Connect.
The event was held online over several days and was open to current students and graduates of Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Georgetown University in Qatar, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Northwestern University in Qatar, Texas A&M University at Qatar, and Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar.
Company representatives who attended the event gave presentations about their organizations and outlined potential internship and job opportunities, while others held question-and-answer sessions with students and alumni to answer questions about future opportunities or company information.
Organizers said that about 120 students attended each day of the week’s events.
“This is the first time we have held such a large-scale virtual career event across five universities,” said Texas A&M at Qatar’s Sarah Aboulhosn, manager of industry engagement and alumni affairs, who helped organize the event. “It went really well, and we are thrilled that we were able to get our employers, students and alumni together for such a meaningful event.”
Mohammed Fakhroo, Executive Director of Outreach and Institutional Advancement at QF, said, "This first-of-its-kind digital career fair was of great benefit to our students and graduates in enabling them to connect with potential employers and helping them define their future paths. At QF, the support we provide our students, both present and past, extends to looking beyond their time in academia, as we open up opportunities for them to explore ways of further developing their skills and enhancing their employment prospects. Events such as this digital career fair are also of value to employers, as they allow them to interact with QF’s highly skilled current students and graduates, and to identify the talent that matches their needs and goals.”
