Doha - Qatar, 02 December 2012: Qatargas has delivered three presentations on environmental topics at the Qatar Sustainability Expo which is running in conjunction with COP18, the UN Climate Change Conference, in Doha between 26th November and 7th December at the Doha Exhibition Center.

The first presentation by Bashir Mirza, Qatargas' Jetty Boil-off Gas (JBOG) Recovery Project Manager, showcased the $1billion project which, when completed in 2014, will reduce flaring during the ship loading process. This will save enough LNG per year to power more than 300,000 homes. The project will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 1.6 million tonnes per annum, a reduction of 90%.  A model of the project is on display at the event.

Another presentation delivered by Khalid Bashir, Lead Environmental Engineer, explored Qatargas' flare management program which highlighted the main drivers for the program and showed the steps taken that led to Qatargas winning the World Bank-led GGFR 'Excellence in Flaring Reduction Award' in 2012.

The third presentation by Afzal Subedar, Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Specialist, discussed GHG reduction approach and how the actions have contributed to an 11.5% reduction in GHG emissions since 2010.  It also outlined further steps the company is taking to continue to reduce its carbon footprint through a combination of operating excellence and environmental performance enhancements to responsibly utilize Qatar's natural resources and ensure alignment with the Qatar National Vision 2015 on sustainable development.
