Ludovico De Luigi Art Exhibition as part of the Al Qasba Italian Festival
Sharjah: Qanat Al Qasba, Sharjah's premier entertainment and family destination is hosting an art exhibition the total worth of which adds up to Dh7.5 million. The Ludovico De Luigi Art Exhibition, by the famous Italian artist is part of the ongoing Al Qasba Italian Festival which will be held until March 8.
The exhibition, which is being held at Maraya Al Qasba, the destination's famous gallery that has seen a number of past landmark events, displays 29 of De Luigi's paintings. The paintings, all centred on Venice and Italy, Luigi's place of birth and residence to date, are exquisite and filled with life.
"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Qanat Al Qasba, and the Emirate of Sharjah as a whole for hosting this event. It is quite heartening to see the interest and efforts that Sharjah, and the UAE as a country, has put in to keep all forms of art alive," said De Luigi.
Dina AL Nakhi, events manager of the Qanat Al Qasba Development Authority remarked upon the importance of such events that help build the cultural gaps that exist in the current world. She also stated that visitors are welcome to meet the artist in person to discuss his artworks during the course of the exhibition.
Along with Venice, 75 year old De Luigi mixes the themes of entomology, science fiction and surrealism, using advanced artistic techniques as computer elaboration of images. Having exhibited in Italy, Germany, Spain, France, Australia, USA and many other countries, Luigi also participated in the Venice Biennale in 1986. One of his works is exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum of Venice.
In 1985 the prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud had commissioned some paintings from De Luigi, one of which celebrated his voyage into space and the other celebrated Arabia and Venice. For the latter, the artist had painted a Venetian galley and on the hull had transcribed a poem in Arabic composed in Venice by the prince's court poet.
The Al Qasba Italian Festival which began on February 28 will continue until March 8. bringing a true taste of Venice, this festival is packed with fun filled events to suit every member of the family.
