Beirut, June 21, 2007. Events UnLimited and Hospitality Services of Lebanon, the joint organisers of the annual International Hospitality Forum, held a Professional Culinary Arts Exhibits Workshop in Amman on the 16th and 17th of June 2007 at the College of Hospitality and Tourism of the Jordan Applied University.
The Professional Culinary Arts Exhibits Workshop, sponsored by Nabil Company for Food Products, aimed at improving the level of culinary skills in Jordan and preparing chefs to compete in the various categories of the Culinary Art Show of the International Hospitality Forum, as well as in regional competitions.
The Workshop was conducted by Chef Markus Iten, President of the Egyptian Chefs Association and the Continental Director, Middle East & Africa, of the World Association of Cooks Societies (WACS). Chef Iten is a Chef Consultant and Trainer with more than 25 years of experience in culinary arts competitions. He has been a member of the jury panel at many international competitions including the International Hospitality Forum in Jordan, Horeca in Beirut and National Salon Culinaires in Cairo among others. Chef Iten is the founder and trainer of the National Culinary Team of Egypt, which scored silver and bronze medals in various international competitions.
The 2-day intensive workshop covered many areas including the importance and reasons for participating in culinary arts competitions; the WACS rulings and regulations of the most common culinary art competitions; correct slicing techniques and reinforcing craft skills; preparation of aspic for glazing purposes; professional skills and cooking guidelines in applying aspic to food items and several others. The Workshop provided theoretical as well as hands on training where chefs learnt new techniques and watched several slides and videos.
Participating chefs came from various hotels and restaurants in Jordan including Amman Marriott Hotel, Jordan InterContinental, Kempinski Hotel Amman, Movenpick Resort & Spa Dead Sea, Century Park Hotel, Imperial Palace Hotel, Bristol Hotel, Belle Vue Hotel, Casper & Gambini's in addition to chefs from the Jordan Applied University.
