Bahraini children develop a preference for Porsche

Dubai. After the great success it achieved last year, "Porsche Kids Driving School" program returned to this year's Bahrain Grand Prix with another spectacular success. For three exciting days, which were fully booked, more than 400 children aged between 3 and 10, lined up to drive 15 Porsche 911 pedal cars around a mini road-track setup, after being briefed about basic traffic rules and signs. While kids enjoyed the pedal cars on the track, their parents marveled at the new Cayenne on display. The event, which was supported by Porsche Middle East and Africa, was staged in the F1 Village, during the first round of "Porsche Mobil Supercup" held during the Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2007.

Deesch Papke, Managing Director of Porsche Middle East and Africa, underlined how this event complements Porsche's comprehensive approach to safety: "Our mission in Porsche is not only automotive, but also social and humane. The safety features implemented in our cars justify this notion to the fullest. Since safety is also an educational affair, it is very important to teach it to the public, especially the young audience. The fruit of our highly ambitious event will be appreciated to a great extent in the present as well as in the long-term future."

A small road-track was set up, complete with road signs, zebra crossings and traffic signals. After a short briefing by a qualified instructor on traffic signs and rules, children drove on the track while adhering to basic road safety rules. At their disposal were Porsche cars like no other: 911 pedal cars. The aim of the educational activity was to create awareness about road safety amongst children, and provide an exciting 'Porsche experience' for children during the Formula One event.

All children, many of whom even carried their 2006 license with them from last year's program, received an easy-to-understand booklet on road safety rules. Upon completion of the session, they also received a 'Porsche Driving License' stating "My First License - I Know My Road Rules". The plastic license card carries all details of the child such as name, age and photograph, and although it does not permit the child to drive, it does indicate that the card holder has participated in a road safety program.

Furthermore, each child received an "Information Pack" including a "Porsche Safe Driving Handbook" for his parents, to promote awareness of traffic rules and explain what we can do to make the roads safer for us and our children. At the end, there were lots of happy and proud little faces!
