Planters, the largest interior landscaping company in the UAE and based for the past 26 years in Dubai, were contracted by Le Meridien to execute the interior landscaping for their latest prestigious project - The Grosvenor House. The first hotel to be located in one of Dubai's newest residential locations, Dubai Marina. The 45-storey Grosvenor House Dubai by Le Meridien is a total lifestyle property.
From the foundations up, the striking building was custom-designed to reflect the essence of Arabia fused with the very latest in technology, design and luxury. The challenge for Planters was to create a British interior landscaping theme which mirrors the style and elegance of the Grosvenor House Hotel in London and yet have an Arabic touch to it.
According to Mr. Jonathan Pardoe, General Manager, Planters, "our brief was to create an ambience which was complementary to the strong British theme existing throughout the hotel. We chose a selection of plants including replica trees, preserved conifers, kentia palms and peace lilies. All plants were imported from Europe specifically for the project."
"We sourced replica Birch trees from the UK, preserved Cypress trees from Europe and the live plants from Holland.
"The project is very interesting in that it combines replica, preserved and living trees and plants. The high quality of the plants chosen makes it difficult to differentiate between what's live and what's preserved," explained Mr. Pardoe. "We have chosen the Birch species to provide an authentic British tree, the Cypress to give that formal English garden look, Kentia palms imitate the parlour palms often used in British dcor and Peace Lilies imitate the 'Lilly of the Valley' plants often found in traditional English Gardens."
"The preserved conifers we have used are rare in this part of the world, while the Kentia and Peace Lillies are more common interior plants."
Pia L. Sen, an associate of LW Design who were responsible for the interior design for the Grosvenor House Hotel stated, "The concept of the interior design was to create a modern contemporary hotel with an inviting and comfortable feeling. The idea was to have guests feel as if they were at home even if away from home." Ms Sen continued to add "Obviously adding planting to all areas of the hotel makes the overall look complete. Without accessories, artwork and planting a project will very often look empty and uncompleted."
"Careful planning went into the selection of the plants due to the challenge of the subdued lighting in the lobby and other areas, which is always a major consideration when choosing the appropriate plants" said Mr. Pardoe. "Approximately 20 staff were involved in the installation to complete the project on time, the planting arrangement now acts as a focal point that complements the ambience of a truly British Hotel of the highest quality," Mr. Pardoe went on to add.
"Planters have done an excellent job, all the plants seem to fit well into the spaces where used. I like the fact that both artificial and live plants have been used. It is always important to select the right plants for every environment," said Ms Sen.
Interior landscaping has become an important feature for creating an environment that looks aesthetically pleasing. Mr. Pardoe concluded, "we hope that this addition to our portfolio will increase our profile within the industry and cement Planters' position as the leading interior landscaping company which delivers professional projects on time and to the highest standard."
