Rabigh Refining & Petrochemical Company "Petro Rabigh" marked the departure of it's first overseas product shipment, a reward of three concentrated years of complex work to construct and commission the largest integrated petrochemical complex in the region.
The shipment contained 19,200mt of 99.9% pure Mono Ethylene Glycol (MEG), a widely used coolant and antifreeze solvent. "Rabigh Sunshine" the 146m long vessel, docked at Rabigh Sea Port on Friday, May 15 at 3 pm. It was loaded with MEG and later dispatched to China (xxx) on May 17, 2009.
The newly established "Petro Rabigh" has recognized this event as a mile stone for the company's accomplishments and mission as a world-class integrated company to transform hydrocarbon resources into products that enhance human life.
Petro Rabigh, launched in September 2005 as a 37.5:37.5% joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Sumitomo Chemical with 25% of shares traded publicly, is the largest combined oil refinery and petrochemical production facility ever built at one time. Under the terms of the joint venture agreement, Saudi Aramco will supply Petro Rabigh with the raw materials necessary to operate the plant, including ethane, on a long-term, fixed-price basis. Sumitomo Chemical will provide international sales and marketing expertise, as well as technology transfers.
