The cruise industry in Dubai is expected to drive demand for specialised hospitality manpower and logistics services as at least 120 cruise ships with a combined total of 325,000 passengers are poised to dock in the emirate this year, up from 100 cruise ships and 250,000 tourists in 2009, according to figures released by the Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM). Outsourcing has been an attractive solution for the manpower requirements of cruise ships because of the seasonality of the cruise industry. Cruise ships typically require staff and specialists that understand the dynamics of the cruise industry, particularly client privacy and etiquette. Recent statistics from DTCM reveal that from April 6 to June 14 alone this year, a total of 26,580 tourists from several cruise ships have already visited Dubai, highlighting the need for specialised manpower services to handle the large volume of visitors and address the different needs of ships that are being docked in Dubai.
