Next-generation ICT networks will link smart grids and utilities - and smart consumers.
3 June 2012, Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Orange Business Services will highlight its cutting-edge expertise and experience in building next-generation ICT infrastructures and machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions that form the backbone of smart ecosystems on any scale - from a home to a building, campus to a city, or at country level - at Smart Cities World MENA 2012 taking place June 4-5 in Dubai. These flexible interconnected communication networks and software, combined with sensors and actuators in the grid, enable utilities to move to next generation electricity networks and services.
Part of France Telecom-Orange dedicated to B2B services, Orange Business Services will share its experiences and vision of the ICT infrastructures as a service delivery platform to connect community, devices and people, offering integrated systems and communication networks, to support utilities moving to smart metering or smart grid.
"As a Smart Cities World speaker and sponsor, Orange is well positioned to share its unique experience in developing next-generation ICT infrastructures for Smart Cities including smart grids and utilities communications networks," said Reza Sadri, Director for Utilities, Orange Smart Cities Program, Orange Business Services. "In the case of utilities, for example, these smart meters generate real time data on water and electricity consumption. In fact, utilities then build complete telecommunication networks, and Orange Business Services can definitely help utilities to properly roll out and operate such networks. Last but not least, flexible communications options can then link to connected buildings, homes, smart appliances, and even reach consumers via smart phones."
Reza Sadri concludes: "This Smart Cities event provides an important platform to highlight advances in the field and to share our smart cities expertise and experience, including designing and operating M2M networks and platforms, which can have a positive impact for economic growth, while taking into account socio-economic issues, eco-efficiency and environmental policy. The Middle East region is unique because of the 'greenfield' opportunities it presents, which means that urban and community plans can factor-in 'smart' elements - such as smart metering and smart services - right from the blueprints."
With 2,000 people working on the business-to-business market in the Middle East and Africa, Orange Business Services supports customers across the strategically important Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states from the Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa regional headquarters in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and through a new entity - Orange Business Arabia, based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
