Latest Market Data Reveal Expansion of Middle East's License and Maintenance Market to $418.58 million in 2008

  • Oracle, the world's largest business software company, has been named as the leading vendor in IDC's latest report, Arab Middle East and North Africa Software Solutions 2009-2013 Forecast and 2008 Vendor Shares (IDC #ZR01R9, December 2009).

  • According to IDC, Oracle retained its leading position in the MENA Enterprise Application Software (EAS) License and Maintenance (L&M) market with strong year-on-year growth in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and North Africa markets.

  • With L&M revenues of $148.50 million across the region, Oracle's year-on-year EAS revenue was up by 11.7% in 2008.

  • Oracle was ranked first in Egypt in 2008, with EAS revenues of $13.29 million and a 37.2% market share.

  • In Gulf Cooperation Council states, including Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait, Oracle remained leaders with a 45.5% market share and revenues of $34.79 million, according to the report.

  • Furthermore, Oracle remained the largest EAS vendor in the UAE market in 2008, according to IDC, with a 45.9% market share and revenues of $55.21 million.

  • Oracle came first in the Levant market, including Jordan, Syria and Lebanon, achieving $6 million and leading the market with 39.9% market share.

  • With a 46.1% market share of the MENA Customer Relationship Management market, IDC ranked Oracle first with a 12.1% year-on-year increase in 2008 to reach revenues of $27.38 million.

  • Furthermore, revenues relating to Oracle's Supply Chain Management Applications were up 11.5% year-on-year to reach $10.73 million, leaving Oracle with a 18.8% market share.

Vertical Breakdown

  • The process manufacturing sector was ranked first in the MENA EAS market in 2008, accounting for 17.8% of the total EAS spend in the region

  • The finance sector was ranked second on the MENA EAS market in 2008, with 15.1% of total EAS expenditure.

  • As governments invested heavily in advanced EAS solutions in 2008, the public sector was ranked the third largest market for EAS spending in 2008, with a 14.9% share of the market.

  • The retail industry was the fourth largest EAS spender in the region, with 10.2% share, followed by discrete manufacturing with 8.4% in 2008.
