Muscat: Among the many gifted resources of the Sultanate of Oman, one which will provide a good contribution to its economic development and create employment, is its untapped vast mineral resources. Many projects are already underway and potential local and international investors have shown interest. Now marks the perfect time for focus and a prosporous mining industry to emerge. With this objective, OITE Conferences is proud to announce the Oman Geo, Mining and Minerals Conference which will be held at the Grand Hyatt, Muscat, from the 21st and 22nd May 2012.

The conference will include presentations and panel discussions on several topics relevant to geo scinces with specific focus to mineral exploration instead of the earlier focus on oil and gas exploration, mining and minerals resources in Oman and its commercial viability, latest technology on mineral mining, sustainable exploration, human resource development, investment & partnership opportunities, legal & regulatory framework. The conference will also present regional & global case studies on mining projects, human resource issues and major challenges in mining among others. Discussions on the Mineral City will be one of the most interesting parts of this conference. It is planned to initially house three major minerals derivatives projects, over the next three years. These will be a magnesium-ferrosilicon project (estimated cost: $250 million); a 40,000-tonne capacity silicon carbide processing facility ($40 million); and a $450 million project for a salt/soda ash project.

"Oman's mining history dates back to pre-Islamic days when copper was mined and sent all over the world. But for a country blessed with bountiful mineral wealth surpassing even that of its oil-rich partners, Oman's progress in this direction can be fast tracked", says Ebrahim Taher, Project Manager of the event. "This conference aims at discussing issues that surround the development of the sector and exploring future opportunities and will serve to bring together senior government officials, investors, corporates, financial institutions and mining executives." he added.

A mini-expo area related to the overall event theme will be available for sponsors, supporting organizations and other joining companies to demonstrate products, services and cutting-edge technologies, consultancy, geo sciences studies to a over 200 delegates and exhibition visitors.
