18 September 2011
With the start of the winter timetable 2011/12 on October 30, Lufthansa German Airlines will upgrade its Doha-Frankfurt service to a non-stop operation, eliminating the intermediate landing in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This will reduce the total travel time between Qatar's capital and Lufthansa's global gateway in Frankfurt, contributing to an even better travel experience.

With the introduction of the winter time table 2011/12, going into effect on 30 October 2011, Lufthansa will offer six weekly non-stop flights from Doha to Frankfurt. Flights from the Qatari capital were previously directed from Doha via Riyadh to Frankfurt. This new service shortens the flight time from 7:30 hours to 5:45 hours for passengers departing from Frankfurt and from 8:25 hours to 6:50 hours for customers departing from Doha.

"Qatar is one of the most dynamic growth markets in the Gulf region and it has long been on our wish list to bring a non-stop Lufthansa service to the Doha-Frankfurt route," said Peter Pollak, Lufthansa's General Manager UAE and Director Gulf, Afghanistan & Iraq. "We are pleased to offer the superior travel comfort of a six weekly non-stop flight to our customers soon," he added, expressing his joy over the recent announcement.

The Lufthansa flights will be operated with an Airbus A330/ A340 aircraft in a three class cabin configuration, featuring Lufthansa's acclaimed First, Business and Economy class. Lufthansa's long-haul fleet is currently being refitted with an all new First Class product as well as with 'FlyNet', the most advanced onboard broadband internet hotspot worldwide. Furthermore, a new, fully-flat Business Class product will be introduced onboard in 2012.

Randa El Massry, Sales Manager for Qatar said: "We are delighted to see enhanced services for our customers. We trust the new service will be welcomed by business and leisure travelers alike, who will now have an even more efficient access to Lufthansa's Frankfurt gateway with flights to over 200 destinations, among them 21 non-stop services to North America." In North America, Lufthansa serves 21 destinations and countless more in cooperation with code share partners United Airlines JetBlue.
