Dubai, UAE, March 29, 2004 – Philips is to introduce the greatest ever choice of LCD and plasma televisions with its 2004 FlatTV™ range, with more design options, screen sizes and models on offer than any other television manufacturer today.

The range includes 25 new models and 12 screen sizes, ranging from a 14-inch (36cm) LCD portable right up to a 50-inch (127cm) plasma model. With this much variety, Philips is able to offer consumers a FlatTV solution for every room in the home, bringing together exciting and complementary designs with the very latest picture quality technology.

Large screen FlatTV technology innovations

All Philips FlatTVs are designed to deliver an unparalleled viewing experience, and no more is that the case than in the large screen models in the 2004 range. Philips has brought together unique innovations such as Pixel Plus™2 and Ambilight™, technologies which, respectively, enhance on-screen picture performance and create a more comfortable and involving viewing experience in the living room.

This year’s large-screen FlatTVs, covering 30-inch (76cm), 32-inch (81cm), 37-inch (94cm), 42-inch (107cm) and 50-inch (127cm) screen sizes, and include a bold new design approach across several lines, with a choice of four distinctive executions integrating the
display in a daring visual concept.

Across the range, Philips is also applying other award-winning picture enhancement technologies, such as Digital Natural Motion™. Furthermore, Philips is broadening its application of Pixel Plus video processing, applying the second generation of this award-winning technology in three LCD-based Philips FlatTVs this year, the 32PF9986, 37PF9986 and 42PF9986, and the 42PF9966 and 50PF9966 plasma sets.

Pixel Plus 2 – like the acclaimed first generation - makes a breathtaking difference in the image definition of a standard television picture, dramatically enhancing individual pixels to create visibly higher definition as a result. Pixel Plus 2 adds a combination of advanced sharpness and resolution processes to other digital picture enhancement technologies, such as Digital Natural Motion, dynamic contrast, color enhancements and noise reduction enhancement.

FlatTVs to fit small spaces

Philips is applying its bold approach to FlatTV design in family of smaller models, which range from 14-inch up to 23-inch (58cm) screen sizes, and provide perfect solutions for smaller spaces such as bedrooms, offices or kitchens.

The 2004 range of smaller Philips FlatTVs includes a total of 13 new sets in four exciting styles offering a choice of feature levels to suit budget and need. At the core of the range are the widescreen 17-inch (43cm) 17PF9946, the 23-inch (58cm) 23PF9946 and the 26-inch 26PF9946 (66cm) sets finished in a modern, rounded design. A two-tone color scheme combining a high gloss white back with a silver front, plus an attractive circular ‘disc’ tabletop stand, creates a stunning visual statement whether the sets are switched on or off.

Philips’ new smaller screen LCD FlatTVs are ‘lifestyle-orientated’, designed to fit consumers’ lives and home needs of consumers by being as complementary and unobtrusive as possible, while reflecting the style and taste of their owners.

Attractive looks are matched by practical design features, such as integrated side controls, which help emphasize how thin the FlatTVs are. Stand-mounted FlatTVs also feature a unique cable management system, which enables cabling to be concealed in the stand itself, and in the process preserve the clean, cordless lines of the set. The stands are also hinged, enabling viewers to tilt the FlatTV to their preferred viewing angle.

Philips’ commitment to television picture quality is underlined throughout the entire 2004 FlatTV range. Even in the smaller screen sizes, Philips has applied its picture innovations, such as Pixel Plus, Active Control with light sensor or Digital Crystal-Clear, ensuring sharp, clear images from any source. These are underpinned by Philips’ use of state-of-the-art active matrix TFT LCD panels to ensure better and wider viewing angle performance.

Philips will commence the introduction of its 2004 FlatTV range in Europe from the second quarter of 2004 onwards. For precise details of pricing and availability, journalists are requested to contact their local Philips press officer.
