Cavotec introduces revolutionary aircraft refueling system that shortens turnaround time for A380 and B787
Dubai - United Arab Emirates: Cavotec Middle East, part of Cavotec Group, a global leader in power supply solutions has introduced for the first time in the Middle East its revolutionary aircraft refueling system. The hose free metal piping refueling system was unveiled at the Airport Show 2007, in Dubai.
"Being market leaders in our field, we at Cavotec are always keen to supply the UAE and GCC region with the latest in technological advancements that add to efficiency, cost reduction, as well as safety," said Mr. Thomas Widegren, Regional Manager and Executive Chairman of Cavotec Middle East.
Conventionally, aircrafts are refueled using rubber hosing which has pressure limitations in the amounts of fuel that can be pumped into the aircraft. However, this new system known as pantographs comprises of a combination of stainless steel tubings, armatures and swivel joints that allow efficient and rapid refueling of all types of aircrafts. This revolutionary system was invented by Meyerinck in 1980 and is mainly used today for direct refueling of military aircrafts worldwide.
Unlike lower diameter rubber hoses the metal refueling arms allow higher refueling flow rates because of reduced pressure loss withstanding pressure higher than 230 psi. This is an added value to the new generations of aircrafts such as the Airbus 380 and the Boeing 787 with increased tank capacity yet they are allocated the same ground times as current smaller aircraft types. The higher refueling flow rates required are also achieved by the larger diameter hydrant and refueling arms. The lifetime of such a high quality swivel / pipe combination is normally more than 15 years without any maintenance.
Furthermore to the added benefits is that of health, as the refueling arms have a supported and balanced refueling nozzle and hydrant coupler which offer occupational health benefits for operating personnel.
The refueling arms - called PANTOGRAPHS - can be installed on dispensers, tank trucks, but also on any underground direct refueling systems.
"This is a revolutionary system that we have introduced to the Middle East, it will greatly reduce the refueling time taken by aircrafts at airports and therefore shortening their turnaround time," explains Mr. Widegren.
Cavotec Middle East is part of the Cavotec Group, a global leader in supplying power solutions to a range of industries including aviation, oil and gas, mining and ports and maritime. The company set up its Dubai regional headquarters back in 1993, expanding to a new AED 10 Million regional headquarters in Jebel Ali Free Zone in 2007. Cavotec also recently inaugurated two new offices in Doha and Abu Dhabi and plans a new Saudi branch within 2008. With these regional expansions, Cavotec is planning substantial increase in its business volume in the GCC region within the next two to four years.
