Nakheel has officially signed design and engineering contracts worth AED46 million for two major developments in its project pipeline: Deira Islands Mall and Palm West Beach.
The deals, inked today with RSP Architects, Planners and Engineers, include an AED40 million contract for a 620,000 square metre retail, dining and entertainment hub at Deira Islands, Nakheel's new, 15.3 sq kilometre waterfront city in Dubai. The contract award was announced in June.
The second contract, worth almost AED6 million, is for Palm West Beach, Nakheel's new, 1.5 kilometre beachside park, dining and entertainment complex to be built on Palm Jumeirah's western trunk.
Tenders for the construction of both projects are expected to be released before the end of 2014.
Deira Islands Mall
With more than 200,000 sqm of leasable space, hundreds of shops, cinemas and a wide variety of cafes and restaurants, Deira Islands Mall is one of a host of attractions - including a night market, hotels, amphitheatre and marina - to be built by Nakheel at the new coastal city.
Deira Islands itself will add 40km, including 21km of beachfront to Dubai's coastline and pave the way for hundreds of tourism, leisure and residential developments including hotels, resorts, serviced apartments, mixed-use buildings and waterside homes. Ninety four first-phase hotel plots launched by Nakheel in March 2014 received a healthy response from investors.
Deira Islands Mall is the latest addition to Nakheel's ever-growing retail project portfolio. Others include Nakheel Mall, Dragon Mart and Ibn Battuta, both of which are undergoing significant expansion, two major malls at Jumeirah Village and neighbourhood shopping centres at several Nakheel communities.
Palm West Beach
Palm West Beach, to be constructed along a 1.5 km stretch on the western trunk of Palm Jumeirah, is a high-end beach club facility featuring a shaded park and promenade, 14 waterfront restaurants, lounge, gym and entertainment terrace.
It is one of several new residential, retail, tourism and entertainment projects by Nakheel at Palm Jumeirah: the others are Nakheel Mall, The Pointe, The Boardwalk, Palma Residences, Azure Residences, Club Vista Mare and Palm Views.
