Dubai - Nakheel, one of the leading property development companies in the region, has awarded the concession agreement to supply chilled water for the Discovery Gardens residential development to Palm District Cooling (PDC).
Discovery Gardens is part of Nakheel's greater developments being built close to already successful project's "The Gardens" and "Ibn Battuta Mall". This development is set to create a quality of sophisticated lifestyle unmatched in the world.
PDC produces and distributes chilled water for air-conditioning in residential and commercial developments and provides a cost effective alternative to cooling buildings by conventional methods.
The agreement was recently signed between Mr. Marwan Al Qamzi, Head of Procurement at Nakheel and PDCs Director, Mr. Keith Levers.
PDC was chosen as the preferred supplier for Discovery Gardens, where it will produce and distribute chilled water for a total connected capacity of 126,000 refrigeration tons. The capital cost involved in constructing the district cooling system is approximately AED 500,000,000.
Keith Levers, Director for PDC commented, "We are delighted that Nakheel chosen PDC to supply chilled water for their new project, Discovery Gardens. District cooling is a reliable and convenient source of cooling energy and we plan to provide the highest quality service at the most competitive rates".
Discovery Gardens will be a new community of spacious, multi-sized apartments set within a variety of surroundings such as lush foliage, desert blooms or beautifully manicured lawns. Capturing the rich diversity of nature and inventive landscaping this unique community features Zen, Mediterranean, Contemporary, Cactus Mogul, and Mesoamerican Courtyard Gardens.
PDC has already proven its capability on a number of Nakheel projects including the prestigious Ibn Battuta Shopping Mall (15,000 tons), The Gardens Residential Complex (21,000 tons), Jumeirah Islands & Dubai Metals and Commodities Centre (12,000 tons) and is currently constructing systems at Jumeirah Lake Towers (165,000 tons), Palm Jumeirah Crescent (136,000 tons) and Palm Jumeirah Trunk (126,000 tons).
PDC has secured commitments to supply chilled water of at least 500,000 refrigeration tons within the next three years to Nakheel's other major projects being executed including Palm Jumeirah Trunk, Jumeirah Lake Towers and Palm Jumeirah Crescent.
It is estimated that large scale developments including the three Palms, Dubai Maritime City, Dubai Water Front, Jumeirah Village North and South, require approximately four million refrigeration tons of cooling and negotiations are continuing between PDC, Nakheel and other developers involved these larger projects within the 'growth corridor' of Dubai.
Referring to the Discovery Gardens agreement, Mr. Qamzi said: "We are sure that Palm District Cooling was the right choice for the project and are confident that they will deliver a fine service as they have demonstrated on our past projects. We always seek to improve our standards and PDC was exactly what this unique project needed".
Keith Levers highlighted PDC's future potential and objectives by announcing, "PDC's market is not just limited to UAE, we have aggressive plans to secure major international District Cooling Projects in the neighboring Gulf countries in the near future".
