Muscat | March 02, 2013: Management and staff from the Tilal Development Company conducted the official opening of the largest mall in the capital - The Muscat Grand Mall under the auspices of H.E. Ahmed bin Nasser bin Hamad al Mahrazi, Minister of Tourism - Sultanate of Oman, whose attendance marked this momentous milestone for the complex.

In addition to the Minister of Tourism, gracing the occasion were the Governor of Muscat, HE Sayyid Saud Bin Hilal Al Busaidi and HE Dr. Ali Bin Masoud Al Sunaidi, Minister of Commerce and Industry, who were joined by numerous VIPs and media personnel.

The event began with an opening address by Eng. Khamis bin Mubarak Al Kiyumi, Chairman of Tilal Development Company who welcomed the esteemed guests and mentioned the significance of this celebration towards Tilal Development Company's vision to make Muscat a better city. Following the Chairman, Eng Abdul Rahman Barham, CEO of Tilal Development Company stated that Muscat Grand Mall is an architectural marvel and a lifestyle symbol in downtown Muscat. He also mentioned that the second phase of the Tilal Complex is already underway and the next two years will see it emerge with numerous facilities for the residents and guests.

Tilal Development Company is the Sultanate's leading real estate company and has been credited with the completion of the ground breaking Muscat Grand Mall project, which has proven to be an immense success in redefining Muscat's retail space.

Since inception, Muscat Grand Mall has quickly established itself as the largest shopping mall and lifestyle destination in Oman with more than 120 outlets showcasing the cream of local and international brands across fashion, cosmetics, electronics, decorations, restaurants and cafes and a lot more.

The Tilal Complex encompasses the Muscat Grand Mall and covers a floor span of 250,000 square metres. The multi-use development provides 30,000 sq metres of premium office space, half of which has been occupied by Nawras Head Office, and 250 superior freehold apartments offering a unique mall living lifestyle to residents. Towards the end of 2013, 115 four star hotel apartments will also join the league of the spectacular complex. With plans to continue expansion, today's ceremony was a chance to celebrate the Tilal Development Company's achievements and showcase the new standard of facilities now available within the Sultanate.

Eng. Khamis bin Mubarak Al Kiyumi, Chairman of Tilal Development Company said "Completing the first phase of the Tilal Complex has included many firsts for the Tilal Development Company and we are duly proud as it sets an impressive benchmark for the rest of the project. The goal was not solely towards creating a profit making venture, rather to achieve worthy objectives such as to create more job opportunities for Omanis and make a better investment environment with special emphasis to the SME sector while also encouraging Omani's to participate in the private sector."

Eng Abdul Rahman Barham, CEO of Tilal Development Company said, "We set some ambitious objectives to create the Sultanate's most extensive lifestyle destination and are delighted that the first phase of this concept has been realised. On completion of the second phase, I am proud to announce that a unique facility will be added to the Tilal Complex, a five star hotel with 300 rooms and 32 high-end hotel apartments. As valuable as this will be to Oman's tourism industry, it will enhance the project value of the Tilal Complex as a whole. Hassan Jaboub, General Manager of Muscat Grand Mall mentioned the dynamic pace at which the Mall has become one of the most popular youth destinations in Muscat. He added, "Following a few days of the launch of the MGM, it became an attractive destination for youth and families - both local and expatriates. I have been proud to see Muscat Grand Mall grow in leaps and bounds. Every month sees the addition of new international and local brands to the family - and we can boast more than 120 outlets now open. In fact the Muscat Grand Mall boasts many firsts, many retailers and brands not before seen in Oman, the largest food court in the country, a superb three-screen cinema and of course 'Podium' - our unique sky-level terrace garden. It is no surprise that Muscat Grand Mall has become the lifestyle centre for residents in the Sultanate."

Concluding the ceremony, the dignitaries declared the Sultanate's youngest mall officially open and afterwards were taken on a brief tour of the Mall and shown the facilities it offers customers. H.E. Ahmed bin Nasser bin Hamad al Mahrazi, Minister of Tourism congratulated the management and staff of MGM on the success of this multi-use project that has garnered critical acclaim throughout the region. The official opening also kicks-off a week-long Muscat Grand Mall celebration which will entertain and surprise all those in the premises.

The Tilal Complex includes the Muscat Grand Mall, an enviable office complex, superior freehold apartments, four star quality hotel apartments and will soon see an addition of a five-star hotel.

The company is also exploring a third phase of this project; which if agreed upon, taking into consideration the tourism and increased visitors to the Sultanate, will expand the space and scope of Muscat Grand Mall.
