AED 2.1B Project

· Road to open by year-end

Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada), has completed 83% of the new Abu Dhabi-Dubai speedway, while work is progressing as planned in accordance with highest standards to deliver the project by end of this year.

Musanada is diligently and persistently working on the project, as part of the efforts to achieve the vision of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and to implement the directions of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, aiming to enhance the economic development of the United Arab Emirates and to improve the quality of infrastructure by approving and executing projects that support the development process in the emirate.

The execution of this new highway has followed a detailed study of the conditions and volume of daily traffic between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The four-lane highway will have a capacity of 8,000 vehicles per hour, i.e. 2,000 vehicles per each lane. Functioning as an alternative route to the existing E11 Abu Dhabi-Dubai highway, the new motorway will form a strategic link that will provide an additional capacity to traffic movement particularly during peak hours.

The total cost of the 62-km highway project is approximately AED 2.1 Billion, and it extends from Seih Shuaib area to Sweihan Interchange. The work is progressing as per the approved plans and schedule, and it is expected to deliver the project during the last quarter of this year.

"This road project will provide a new link to Abu Dhabi city, toward the international airport and Yas in addition to  Saadiyat islands," commented Eng. Hamdan Al Marzouei, Musanada's Acting Roads Director, highlighting that "it will help improve traffic flow between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, easing traffic congestion and reducing the accident rates."

The highway project, consisting of two packages (A and B) and comprising four lanes in both directions, is an extension of the Mohamed bin Zayed Road in Seih Shuaib at the Dubai border. Starting from Seih Shuaib in the way to Abu Dhabi, it will pass through the Forest Belt, Al Maha Forest, Kizad, Bida Khalifa, crossing the Al Ajban Road, passing through Abu Mureikha, Zayed Military City, Al Falah area to Sweihan Interchange at Abu Dhabi-Sweihan Road. The project will also include six interchanges, including the Kizad Interchange, in addition to six underground passes.
