Options galore to meet and enjoy the antics of most popular cartoon characters across the city; Opening Ceremony at 7:30pm at Captain Hamad Cartoon City

Cartoon Surprises, one of the more eagerly awaited of themed weeks during Dubai Summer Surprises, is back this time and promises to the most fun and exciting till date. Presented by Dubai Ports Authority, this week is sure to have children caught up in the fever of frolicking with their favourite characters come to life from popular television series and from comic books.

The week opens with a fabulous Opening Ceremony, which will be held at Hall 5A of the Dubai World Trade Centre, beginning at 7:30pm this evening. The regular DSS attractions will be open at their usual times, like the Modhesh Fun City, Surprises Island, Ice City, Children's City, and the main attraction of the week, Captain Hamad Cartoon City, which will be open to revelers from 2pm till 10pm. Families can also Meet & Greet Modhesh at the East Hall of the Dubai Airport Expo between 5:30 and 6pm.

The Captain Hamad Cartoon City, in Halls 5 and 6 of the Dubai World Trade Centre, will thrown open its doors at 4pm on the first day and 2 pm every day thereafter, and revelers can be sure of a fun-filled time with all their favourite cartoon characters. This exciting city has been divided into many zones that offer a whole range of options to each visitor. The zones are Teletubbies Corner, Kids Sumo Wrestling, Mushroom Souq, Puppet shows, Fun Land Workshop, 'Play and Win' zone, Public Library reading corner, Beit Al Khair corner, Toon Dance Studio, Jungle Adventure Cartoon Land, Captain Hamad Ship, Wild Wadi Chutes and Ladders game, Cartoon Fun Fair and Captain Hamad Science Corner.

The city also has a section for daily competitions aimed at educating children in a fun and rewarding manner. The stages host shows like Smurfs Show, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, and 'Meet & Greet' where children can interact with their favourite characters.

The marvelous malls in Dubai too will have their share of the fun and excitement, with the Modhesh Games at Al Bustan Centre and Bin Sougat Centre from 10 am onwards. 5pm shows kick off at many malls, including Deira City Centre's 'Traditional Caf', 'Tweety and Sylvester Game' and the section for children's competitions, Hamarain Centre's 'Puppet Workshop', Mercato Centre's 'Hockey Maze', 'Cartoon Masks Workshop' and children's competition section at Al Ghurair City, 'Teletubbies Ludo Game' at Oasis Centre, and 'Make Your Own Cartoon Character Workshop' at BurJuman Centre. Modhesh Competitions will begin at the Mercato Centre at 6pm.

Dubai Summer Surprises 2004 is currently in the Sweets Surprises, which is being organised by Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing till July 7, followed by Cartoon Surprises by Dubai Ports Authority from July 8-14, Flower Surprises by Dubai Municipality from July 15-21, Heritage Surprises by Dubai Customs from July 22-28, Adventure Surprises by Dubai Police from July 29-August 4, Knowledge Surprises by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry from August 5-11, Back-2-School Surprises by the Department of Economic Development from August 12-18 and ends with the Colour Surprises by the Department of Health and Medical Sciences from August 19- 27, 2004.
