Manama, Bahrain, 18th November 2013: In line with Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts sustainability efforts, the Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain has been awarded for the third year on a row with the Green Globe certificate on October 2013. This premier global certification for sustainability has been awarded to Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain for developments towards sustainable management approach.
The Hotel committed to the criteria's of green globe certification, which is a long process with an extensive audit of over 350 criteria's to be met in order to achieve the global award towards sustainability in environmental, social cultural, quality, health and safety.
Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain has undertaken full responsibilities towards achieving the green globe certificate since 2011 and the main initiatives are reducing utility consumptions and the waste recycling program. The hotel is working hard on the four key areas to lower the environmental impact which are energy, water, waste and the main goal for 2014 was supporting local organisations and charities.
Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain has donated lots of furniture, contributed money to local organisation such as UCO elder centre, and supported orphans throughout 2013. In addition, the hotel recycles 76% of the waste such as paper, metals, glass a. The extra food from left over buffets of the day goes to animal care organisation.
The chief engineer of the hotel "Amal Fernando" has been taking the lead, in coordination with the management team to meet all the audit criteria's.
"Our aim is to reduce and optimize the energy conception, by reducing water consumption, better management of waste and chemical use" Fernando stated, and he also added "the Hotel has contracted with companies to recycle waste material such as bottles, plastic, paper, cartons, used kitchen oil and cans, I'm so delighted that we have scored 87% comparing with last year 86% and hoping to score higher by 2014".
In order to achieve the green globe certification, Mövenpick hotel Bahrain has adhered to the highest international standards, which a third-party independent auditor was appointed to work with the hotel management team.
The Green Globe Certification Standard provides the international hospitality industry as a whole with a framework to conduct a comprehensive assessment of their environmental sustainability performance, through which they can monitor improvements and achieve certification.
