UAE has 85 percent HACCP Certifications; Mövenpick sets the trend for food safety & hygiene in Makkah

In a significant move, the Mövenpick Hotel & Residence Hajar Tower Makkah has been the first hotel in Makkah to receive the 'Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point' (HACCP) Certification. This is in accordance with the hotel working relentlessly towards achieving high quality standards for its guests.

"We are proud to receive this certification and it is one of seven certifications received by the Group for this region, with still more properties to be certified by end of this year. The certification endorses our stand on the importance of quality standards and safe food handling especially for religious tourists," said Omar Boujlid, General Manager, Mövenpick Hotel & Residence Hajar Tower, Makkah.

Strict regulations on food safety and hygiene is becoming a norm in the GCC region. Certifying these facts, the United Registrar Services, an independent assessment and certification body stated that UAE has 85 percent HACCP Certifications on food safety for hotels in the region. However, Movenpick is setting a trend in the Makkah region.

Focusing on quality and opulence, the hotel unveiled its Amiri signature suites that offer elegance and extravagance. Each suite measuring 150 square meter will have a theme and boast a master bed room and twin bedded room with a spacious living room, dining area, kitchen and storage area.

"These suites are part of the plan to reach complete capacity of 800 rooms by August 2010, just in time for the holy month of Ramadan. We cater to a large number of guests be it international or even from surrounding Arab regions. Tourists hailing from the GCC are the highest spenders and among them, Kuwaiti nationals rank second in terms of hotel guests from the GCC," added Boujlid.

HACCP, a certification awarded by an independent company United Registrar of Systems Ltd, is an internationally recognized authority on food safety. The Company will continue to monitor and audit the hotels on an annual basis. The certification ensures that the Group can identify any breakages in the HACCP chain through strict record keeping and documentation.
