Cairo, Egypt, October 18th 2006 - Mitel, the trusted innovator of IP communications solutions and applications, today announced that Pharos University in Alexandria (The first international university in Alexandria) , Egypt has selected Mitel to implement an advanced IP communications system throughout its campus based on an offering from Light Technology, a Mitel Platinum Partner in Egypt. This is the first major deployment of VoIP in the Alexandria region.

Facing heavy competition, the Mitel solution was selected over other vendor offerings for its ease of installation and use, simplified management, seamless integration of IP applications and the ability to easily scale as the university expands.

When completed the Mitel VoIP network will service over 3500 students and staff at the university across 4 locations within Alexandria. Based on a network of Mitel 3300 MXe IP Platforms the university will be able to support both legacy TDM users and IP users within one network.
