New MINI One MINIMALISM Line gets the 'green' light.
Performance, efficiency and driving fun is what MINIMALISM stands for and is why the 2010 MINI, MINI Clubman and MINI Cabrio have a revised range of petrol engines. Modifications to all MINI engines include targeted updates that further increase performance and considerably reduce CO2 emissions.
Also joining the model line up for 2010 are two variants of the new MINI One MINIMALISM Line, as well as the MINI One Cabrio. Powered by low-fuel consumption and low-emissions, the new Cabrio's four-cylinder engine offers an extremely economical way to enjoy that typical MINI go-kart feeling in soft-top form. Both model line-ups focus on intensely minimising fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
'MINIMALISM', is the term derived by MINI, that incorporates all technological measures designed to further increase the driving fun typical of the brand but at the same time keeps both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions as low as possible. In the new MINI petrol powerplants, measures such as reducing friction and improving heat management in the basic engine have enabled further improvements in efficiency. These engines are now served by a map-controlled oil pump which ensures extremely efficient use of energy.
The new engine fitted in the MINI Cooper S, MINI Cooper S Clubman and MINI Cooper S Cabrio, is the world's most efficient unit in its class. It develops maximum output of 184bhp and has peak torque of 240 Nm that can dip to an engine speed as low as 1,600 rpm. VALVETRONIC technologies from BMW engines have also been incorporated in the latest MINI Cooper S 1.6-litre engine. These new additions optimise the engine's responses and enables significant reductions in fuel consumption and emissions. It does so by adjusting the lift and opening period of the intake valves to the driver's power requirements within fractions of a second.
Meanwhile the MINI One MINIMALISM Line uses optimised engine technology, Brake Energy Regeneration and Auto Start Stop, Shift Point Display and other MINIMALISM measures to achieve a CO2 figure of 119 g/km which ensures extremely efficient use of energy. Stand out features on both models of the MINI One MINIMALISM Line include aerodynamically optimised wheels, exclusive Pepper White design elements in the radiator grille and on the exterior mirror caps, and a model-specific logo.
The new MINI One Cabrio is the most economical way of enjoying driving fun in an open-top premium car. It displays all the features which highlight the unique style of the brand's open-top four-seater cars. It's an attractive entry-level variant that completes the range alongside the MINI Cooper S Cabrio and MINI Cooper Cabrio models.
With beautifully chiselled body surfaces, a sporty, stretched side view, short front and rear overhangs and large wheel cut-outs define the car's the new MINI One Cabrio appearance is unmistakable. The four-cylinder unit takes an extremely efficient route to marrying inspiring agility with the open-air driving experience. The new MINI One Cabrio accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.3 seconds with a maximum speed of 181 km/h but only burns a mere 5.7 litres of petrol per 100 km.
