Dubai conference sponsored by international safety organisation
IOSH, the leading international safety organisation, is sponsoring a two-day conference at Intersec which is now the largest safety and security event held in the Middle East.
The UK-based Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, now fast-expanding in the UAE, will bring together worldwide experts to help companies better meet legal and moral obligations in achieving safety standards.
IOSH President Ray Hurst said: "The world of work is changing. Organisations need a systematic approach to manage new and existing hazards and risks with the same degree of expertise and to the same standards as other core business activities. The principles of health and safety management systems can apply to any workplace."
The IOSH Middle East event 2008 will be introduced by Ray Hurst (January 13th) who will speak about making for a safer international workplace in his key note address. On the following day the conference will include presentations from Yasser Rahim, Safety and Security Manager at GPIC and Shawqi Sajwani, Group Director of Business Excellence at Dubai Holding.
The final day focuses specifically on safety and health in the construction sector with presentations from leaders in the field including Mark Warrington, Vice President of Construction Safety at EHS (Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, Dubaiworld) and Wayne Harris, General Manager, Corporate Safety and Health at Nakheel.
Speaking about Intersec Middle East, Brigadier Rashid Thani Al Matrooshi, Head of Dubai Civil Defence, said: "The event also presents solutions for problems relating to prevention, fire fighting and occupational safety that are becoming more and more demanding as the economic sector continues to grow. Thus, Dubai Civil Defence is playing a leading role in supporting the Intersec Conference and Exhibition.
"Let us be partners in this endeavour to make Dubai a safe place to live for residents and expatriates alike and make work sites safe and healthy for those who work there."
The event at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre features pavilions from Germany, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Austria, UK, Scandinavia, USA, Pakistan, Spain, Korea, Italy and Canada.
Exhibition supporter IOSH is Europe's leading body for health and safety professionals with over 31,000 members worldwide, including more than 11,500 Chartered Safety and Health Practitioners. It is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that sets professional standards, supports and develops members and provides authoritative advice and guidance on health and safety issues. IOSH is formally recognised by the ILO as an international non-governmental organisation.
IOSH opened its first branch in the Middle East in 2006 and has recently seen exceptional growth in its membership.
