-mbc2 Movies in Motion competition, filmed with Nokia Nseries, launches in UAE -
Dubai, 29 October 2007: The creative dreams of a budding generation of movie makers are set to become reality through a visionary competition - mbc2 Movies in Motion - that will culminate in the winning movie being seen by 40 million people and winning an award at a major film festival.
The competition, created by mbc2, is in partnership with Nokia and will use Nokia Nseries devices to record movies. The competition offers students at schools and universities across the UAE the opportunity to make their own 2 Minute Movie, from concept to final-cut. And, recognizing the technological evolution of 21st century film making, all movies will be shot on mobile communications devices.
Andrew Maskall, Senior Channel Marketing Manager, commented: "As the leading movie channel in the Middle East mbc2 is perfectly placed to nurture, recognize and support new talent in our specialist industry. We have been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and positive reception that the mbc2 Movies in Motion initiative has received from the educational institutions that have been approached, and we can't wait to see the finished products. This is just the first phase in our long term commitment to mobile movie making and we will have some very exciting announcements to make at this year's Dubai International Film Festival"
The mbc2 Movies in Motion competition is being launched with a road show that will take a team of industry experts to approximately 20 UAE schools and universities where they will offer participating students a condensed course in the finer art of movie production, from storyboard creation to the final edit.
Nokia, the world leader in mobility, are partners in the mbc2 Movies in Motion project following from past successes with mobile device movie competitions such as the Tribeca and Stockholm Film Festivals, the Cannes Lions Young Creatives' Film Competition, where the award-winning movie was shot entirely on the Nokia N93 device. For mbc2 Movies in Motion project, Nokia will be providing the revolutionary Nokia Nseries handset Nokia N95 8GB for the shooting of the movies. The Nokia N95 8GB, allows users to jump into action, with video capture of up to 30 frames per second, a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, video centre, internet and built in GPS; with a total of 8GB storage space on the device.
Neil Gordon, VP Multimedia, Nokia Middle East and Africa, said: "Nokia is thrilled to be associated with this exciting venture, and to provide our innovative Nokia N95 8GB device for a competition that not only harnesses the creative talents of young people, but also encourages them to explore new dimensions, genre and methods of connectivity."
Entries in the mbc2 Movies in Motion competition will receive a special 2 Minute Movie Award at this year's Dubai International Film Festival, and will be viewed by an international panel of judges who will nominate the winning movie. In addition, the movie will be aired on mbc2 to a prospective audience of 40 million people in the Arab world - exposure that many Hollywood producers could only dream about.
Commenting on Dubai International Film Festival's association with mbc2 Movies in Motion, Mahsa Motamedi, Director of Marketing & Sponsorship said: "Investing and developing creative film talent at a grassroots level such as this is an initiative that we applaud and endorse and we are proud of our association with mbc2 Movies in Motion. DIFF has been active for four years now, and every year we create new benchmarks for the industry in general, and for the Middle East in particular."
The mbc2 Movies in Motion competition runs from 28th October to the end of November. The winning 2 minute movies will be shown at the Dubai International Film Festival that takes place this year from 9th to 16th December.
