Dubai: Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC), a leading 3D Animation and Visual Effects training provider in India, launched its Training Academy in Dubai for the benefit of students seeking a career in the animation industry.
Announcing the launch at a press conference in Dubai on Tuesday, Mr Naveen Gupta, Chief Operating Officer, MAAC, said "The Academy will provide students training through different courses such as "Advanced" and "Professional" Diplomas in 3D Animation & Visual Effects in addition to various short term programmes."
He said these courses, with training period between four months and 15 months, have been designed keeping latest industry requirements in mind, and are constantly upgraded by a panel of experts comprising animators, instructors and artists from the industry.
"These courses are complemented by frequent seminars and workshops conducted by top experts from both Indian and international animation industry, besides students getting to visit production houses in Mumbai for a first-hand view of the working there" he added.
The courses cover topics ranging from traditional art and pre-production skills to high-end computer animation including character animation, architectural pre-visualization, visual effect and motion graphics. It includes concepts like sketching, illustration, storyboarding and visualization to production and post-production processes, while the software packages taught by MAAC include: Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, Autodesk 3ds max, Autodesk Combustion, Autodesk Maya, Pixologic ZBrush, Eyeon Fusion, Apple Final Cut Pro & Apple Shake.
To bring out the best in its students, MAAC organizes an annual competition called "24fps Animation Awards" where winners are chosen from among teams of top students for the best animated short films on a subject of local interest.
Over the past years, animated films made by MAAC students have won nominations & awards at prestigious events such as Asia Image Apollo Awards, Digicon 6+2 Tokyo, FICCI BAF Awards, ASIFA India honours among others.
Reinforcing MAAC's credentials, Mr Gupta said the Academy has several key technology partnerships that validate its leadership in this industry, and which include being authorized training centers (ATC). In addition to this, MAAC's courses have been globally validated by the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) in an exclusive partnership.
Commenting on the reasons for setting up the Academy in Dubai, Mr Naveen Gupta said "We are providing students in the UAE an opportunity to learn and enter this industry of computer animation whose biggest consumer is the television and advertising industry -- where animation dominates all the way from low end title scrolls to high end visual effects for television commercials and serials."
The gaming market, which is three times the size of the Hollywood movie industry, is witnessing games like Halo 2 and the upcoming Halo 3, Quake series, Doom etc., bringing photorealistic and interactive animation to homes. The growing demand of the Indian Animation Industry for production-ready animators and artists had led to Maya Entertainment Ltd's academic arm - Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC) - being set up in 2001.
Another interesting factor in this regard is the increasing demand for India's production services where global entertainment majors like Walt Disney, IMAX, Warner Brothers and Sony have been signing huge contracts with India animation companies.
According to a NASSCOM report, the Animation and Gaming industry in India with its combination of creative and economical talent is fast becoming a destination of choice for international companies to outsource their 3D animation and visual effects work. This industry is growing at the rate of more than 30 per cent annually and should touch US$ 3 billion by 2008.
The global market size of this industry is expected to reach US$ 75 billion by 2009, while the Indian animation market itself is expected to rise from US$ 285 million in 2005 to US$ 950 million by 2009.
