Malaysia - 09 June 2008: As part of its newly launched Techani Scheme, Ruwad's delegation to Malaysia is continuing its activities in Kuala Lumpur.  The delegates delivered 30 presentations on new ICT projects to the Malaysian party yesterday, and visited some of Malaysia's leading SMEs in this sector to evaluate the possibility of duplicating their successes in the emirate of Sharjah and throughout the UAE.

Proposals for business development plans and joint ventures have been negotiated between the UAE delegation's members and their Malaysian hosts. Key Malaysian IT players are expected to offer a host of services to Government departments and corporations in the UAE, as the country is one of the most important markets for these technologies. Ruwad's officials are in discussions with their Malaysian counterparts to establish ways in which they might cooperate in finding tools that will assist Ruwad's SMEs in the ICT sector.

Mr. Abdullah Qader Basha, Deputy Chairman of the Multimedia Super Corridor, the sponsor of the program, praised the unique Techani Scheme initiative, saying that it reflects the Sharjah government's keen interest in supporting creative entrepreneurs and in bridging the communication gap between international institutions, with the aim of boosting cooperation among Islamic nations in IT exchange and helping young people to keep abreast of the latest innovations and developments in the ICT sector.

Ruwad's candidates will meet with creative entrepreneurs in Malaysia's ICT sector, review a number of Malaysia's leading ICT projects and visit the premises of the largest players in the industry.

Situated in Malaysia, the MSC Malaysia, formerly known as Multimedia Super Corridor, is a Government initiative designed to catapult Malaysia into the digital information age. Conceptualized in 1996, MSC Malaysia has since grown into a thriving, dynamic ICT hub, hosting more than 2000 foreign-owned and home-grown Malaysian companies focused on multimedia and communications products, solutions, services and research and development. Ruwad's delegation will visit several of these companies tomorrow.

The MSC Malaysia Flagship Applications includes five types of applications: Electronic Government, Multipurpose Card, Smart School, Telehealth and E-Commerce. Malaysia's pro-business government has made IT its chief social and economic enabler, with MSC Malaysia as its main vehicle. By accelerating access to IT and fostering a culture of lifelong learning and innovation, it exemplifies the infinite, opportunity-reflecting prism that is the information age.

With this unique corridor, Malaysia continues to attract leading ICT companies from all over the world, who seek to locate their industries in MSC Malaysia and undertake research, develop new products and technologies and export those products from this base. MSC Malaysia is also an ideal environment for Malaysian ICT SMEs, allowing them to transform themselves into world-class companies. Furthermore, MSC Malaysia welcomes other countries to use its highly advanced infrastructural facilities as a global testing ground for ICT applications and a hub for their regional operations in Asia.
