Al Habtoor Interiors enclosing all the Mall's walkways to make the shopping experience more exotic and enjoyable
Al Habtoor Interiors (AHI), a specialist interior fitout company based in Dubai, was contracted by Bu Haleeba –Al Jaber – Grinaker LTA Joint Venture to construct a timber archway designed to put the entire Al Souk’s walkways in Madinat Jumeirah under cover. Al Souk, part of the Madinat Jumeirah Resort will offer patrons an unparalleled shopping experience, which promises to be both exotic and comfortably cool.
“The structure has been design to enclose all the walkways between the 120 shops in the ‘mall at Madinat Jumeirah’,” explained Habib Hakim, General Manager, Al Habtoor Interiors. “Patrons will be able to enjoy a traditionally designed Souk in the comfort of a temperature controlled enclosure. This will make the shopping experience accessible during the hot and cooler months in Dubai.”
“AHI has used a combination of timber and steel for the structure, but the steel is not exposed,” Hakim added. “The timber chosen is a heavy and dense timber called Dabema, sourced from Kenya, which has been given a special treatment to give it a rough and aged finish.”
“AHI has also utilized custom made paints to achieve an antique finish. The roof section is made out of special fiber boards with the same surface finish as the rest of the structure.”
The walkways will be a total of 400 meters long with varying widths of 3 to 4 meters. A total of 1000 cubic meters of wood will be used.
"Madinat Jumeirah Al Souq project is at present one of the most prestigious and challenging jobs that AHI is executing,” said Mr. Hakim. “Challenging because of the complex and very special nature of the job and prestigious by being a part of the breathtaking Madinat Jumeirah Resort on the shores of Arabian Gulf.”
“This project is destined to be a landmark project on completion it features some interesting new components which the UAE has never seen before.”
Al Habtoor Interiors is scheduled to complete the project in April.
