16 June 2005
An agreement was signed last Monday May 30, 2005, at the headquarters of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA), expanding the class "A" ISP license granted to LINKdotNET, the leading privately owned Internet service and solutions provider in Egypt and the Middle East, to include providing Voice over IP (VoIP) services to agencies and corporations using VPN networks. With this agreement, LINKdotNET, which has always been in the lead in providing the latest technologies and services to its customers, has become the first company to provide this service in Egypt. The agreement was signed by Dr. Alaa Fahmy, President of NTRA, and Mr. Khaled Bichara, President and CEO of LINKdotNET.
VoIP is truly a revolutionary service due to the many services and advantages it entails for the business sector. This service provides comprehensive communications solutions that enable digital phone communication using VPN networks in Egypt.
Eng. Alaa Fahmy stated that the initiation of this service in Egypt will have a large impact in developing and attracting investments, as well as having other positive effects on the Egyptian economy. This is due to what VoIP provides in terms of high-quality, low-cost services. He added that NTRA is currently evaluating the next phase of implementing this service in order to allow Egyptian consumers to use VoIP from home to make international or local calls by the end of this year.
"We are proud to be the first company to receive a license to provide this new service that will increase the competitiveness of corporations and help further develop the business sector. This is not new to LINKdotNET, which already has a reputation as being a pioneering company in the field of internet services in Egypt and the Middle East, one that is constantly striving to provide its customers with all the new technological innovations," commented Khaled Bichara, President and CEO of LINKdotNET.
