Roads & Transport Authority: Drivers Training & Qualifying Dep't, Licensing Agency, Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has recently published a series of booklets intended to serve as safe-driving manuals, which will be of particular interest to driving license applicants as they serve as handy scientific references containing all information starting from the vehicle up to the road.

In a statement about the above, the Director of Drivers Training & Qualification Hussain Al Saffar, said: "Last November the Dep't issued five booklets written in line with the international standards and distributed them to all driving centers in order to sell them to all trainees interested in obtaining driver licenses. The booklets will serve as quick references intended to empower and qualify the potential drivers in a sound manner on safe-driving techniques. Each of the five booklets cover an exclusive type of vehicles such that the series span light vehicle, truck & bus, motorbike, bulldozer, and forklift.

"Each book contains abundant information about various rules & regulations of driving relating to traffic, roads, environment-friendly driving habits, traffic fines, penalties and black points," said Al Saffar.

Elaborating on the Truck & Bus booklet, the Director of Drivers Training & Qualification said: "Driving this type of heavy vehicles needs the driver to have a wide driving knowledge and high level skills in driving this sort of plants as drivers spend long hours on roads. This has obliged us to prepare this booklet which contains all information needed by the driver about this sort of vehicles and help acquaint him with the technological terminologies that need to be known in this field."

As to the booklet about operating the Bulldozer, Al Saffar said: "The booklet covered several aspects relating to the types and components of bulldozers, namely: maintaining the security of bulldozers through carrying out regular external checks of the vehicle before starting operation, taking precautionary measures at work sites, and gaining knowledge about the operating, dismantling & assembling of accessories."

Speaking about the key information contained in the Light or Heavy Forklift manual, Al Saffar said: "Operating the forklift is considered somewhat a difficult job as it requires high skill and precision. The manual covers some of the legal stipulations required in the drivers of light & heavy mechanical plants in Dubai, and contains important information about safety aspects, associated materials, technical issues, and safe operation. It also sheds light on the types and components of the forklift and how to control it along with the types and use of various tyres."

As to Motorbike manual, Al Saffar said: "It is imperative for the trainee to study this booklet and has also got to attend the required training course at the driving center until being fully qualified to pass the test. The Manual covers a variety of driving issues such as taking appropriate precaution and care, preparedness to cope with emergency cases, and wearing the specified gear upon driving. It also explains all components of the motorbike and the need to carry out safety checks before each trip as well as night driving and stability on road.
