A rotational camera-fitted GPRS phone recently launched into Italy by LG Electronics (LGE) will soon make its Middle East debut in a GSM version according to global and regional digital leader’s Middle East and Africa Operations President.
“The mobile phone market in Italy is the largest in Europe and the first outside of Korea to receive LG’s G8000,” said Mr. M. B. Shin. “Italy will provide the perfect test market for the product prior to its launch in this region.
“The Middle East has proved an early adopter of new technologies, mirroring the Italian market. Camera phones are very much in vogue at the moment and it is LG’s intention to bring the right product to market at the right time.”
The Korean consumer electronics giant is distributing its G8000 rotational camera-mounted GPRS colour phone handsets to major Italian communications company ‘Wind’.
“The advanced technology and differentiated design of the G8000 appeals to the high-end GSM market,” said Shin.
“The G8000 camera phone is fitted with super-large, ten-line 65,000 colour LCD screen, a video camcorder function with the ability to record moving image video clips and can transmit data at the speed of 115kbps.
“Together with 40 polyphonic tones, the G8000 lets the user display and manage various colour multimedia. We hope the Middle East public will wait to decide how good this phone is.”
LG Electronics recently declared its intention of storming the Middle East and Africa mobile phone market, targeting a massive 650 per cent increase over 2002 sales.
“We have a number of advanced mobile phone products planned for launch in this region that will push LG further up the handset league,” said Shin.
“The mobile phone market in the Middle East and Africa is still growing at a phenomenal rate and we see this trend continuing if not increasing.
“LG is positioning itself to ride-the-wave of customer enthusiasm with a range of exciting, innovative and fashionable mobile phones.”
