Digital leader commands 33 per cent market share worldwide

Dubai, UAE - Global and regional digital leader LG Electronics has boosted its entertainment product portfolio for the Middle East market with the launch of its 102-inch plasma TV.

The new product is expected to significantly boost LG's share in the worldwide PDP business where it has captured 33 per cent market share. LG sold 910,000 PDP's in the third quarter of 2006.

"With the launch of the 102-inch plasma TV, LG Electronics has the largest line-up of high-definition plasma TVs," explained C. H. Lee, President, LG Electronics, Gulf FZE. "Our screen sizes now include 102, 76, 71 and 60-inch models. The 102-inch breakthrough boasts a high-definition picture with 2.07 million pixels; that's more than twice the number of pixels in other advanced PDP products."

To achieve this level of definition, LG has pioneered high-speed signal treatment technology, and proprietary picture treatment algorithm technology. The 102-inch plasma TV employs super-speed driving technology and innovative materials, which are essential to high-definition plasma television products.

It has double the resolution of ordinary plasma TVs, but it achieves 1,000 candelas (cd/?) and a contrast ratio of higher than 5,000:1.

"The television has been appreciated by audiences at exhibitions around the world and completes LG's Full-HD model line-up with TVs from 60 inches to larger than 100 inches, and strenghenes LG's technological leadership in plasma products," added Lee.

LG's product line up during GITEX includes the limited edition gold-plated 71-inch plasma TV - 'LG Royal', which puts clear distance between LG and its competition in the region. The 'LG Royal' edition reflects LG's growing sophistication as both a marketing organisation and product innovator. LG is the genuine leader for premium digital products, and the 'LG Royal' series caters specifically to some of its most exclusive customers in the region.

LG is also showcasing its best selling 'Time Machine' plasma TVs.  The TV boasts of LG's exclusive XD Engine that improves brightness, contrast, and 3D colour control. It also offers sharpness enhancement and 3D noise reduction, and the XDS and SRS/BBE Sound System delivers cinematic surround sound.

Clear Filter technology minimises dullness and eliminates the double image reflection of glass filter TVs. The LG DVR PDP's High Definition Multimedia Interface also does away with multiple wires in favour of a single cable for all functions.
