65 teams to compete in 55-day contest
Dubai, UAE, May 30, 2004: Dubai-based sports venue LG-InSportz Club will host the latest LG Electronics Cricket Tournament from June 1.
Around 60 teams from the retail, banking, education, media and airline sectors in Dubai have already confirmed their participation in the 55-day tournament.
Mr. P.C. Choi, President of LG Electronics Gulf FZE, said: “Since becoming the official sponsors of the Insportz Club six months ago, LG has supported a number of successful cricket events. Like all the rest, this tournament is expected to provide some thrilling matches and conclude with a memorable final.”
The LG-Insportz Club will make the match fixture draw on May 29 and matches will be played from 9:15pm every day except Friday.
LG Electronics Gulf FZE President Mr. P.C. Choi will present the tournament prizes, including winner and runner-up trophies and LG products.
P.C Choi added: “LG has been heavily involved in sports events and sponsorships of all sizes over the years. The LG Cricket Tournament offers cricket fans in Dubai to participate in a sport they love.”
Confirmed teams so far include American University of Dubai, Baskin & Robbins, Dubai Bank, ABN Amro, Aptec Gulf, 101.6 FM, Jackys Electronics, Al-Futtaim, Citibank, Emirates Airlines, NGI, National Bank of Dubai, National Bank of Fujairah, Al-Danube, LG Panthers & LG Cheetas.
Indoor cricket is an adapted form of the traditional game and is based on two teams of eight with the focus always on making runs. Each team bats for sixteen overs and every player on the fielding side must bowl two overs. The ball, softer than a normal cricket ball, is continuously ‘live’ and a team that fails to score runs can have its run total docked.
