Lean Gulf Institute courses held at American University of Sharjah in March

Sharjah: 7 March 2012: Lean Gulf Institute (LGI) will be conducting one day trainingcourses at the American University of Sharjah, School of Business Jafar Executive Education Training Center on 15thMarch.

Lean Gulf Institute (LGI) aims to transform the businessespractices in the UAE from traditional methods to more 'lean methods' which involves networking globally and acting locally to innovate together, LGI promotes the proliferation of 'Lean Thinking' to enhance Middle East and GCC businesses to compete on a more globalplatform. It aims to enhance cooperation between theacademic, business and industrial communities through education, summits, seminars and workshops. 

The School of Business and Management at American University of Sharjah in cooperation with the Lean GulfInstitute will be organising training courses introducingglobally competitive business practices in the Gulf Region.

Malcolm Richards, Dean of School Business and Management, said that the school sees the delivery of training in the latest business methods and professional skills to be a key element of the university's service to the larger business community.

Dr Rob Bateman, Director of the Jafar Executive Education Center said:"Lean is a series of techniques used to eliminate waste and drive continuous improvement. Although originally based on concepts pioneered by Toyota in manufacturing, the use of lean has spread to services, construction and health care as well,"

Sam Salimi, Managing Director of LGI, said the role of his organization is to "accelerate the diffusion of Lean knowledge to meet the needs of businesses in an ever-changing world."

According to Salimi the course is unique in that it offers to turn dreams into reality by teaching, demonstrating,illustrating and coaching individuals and enterprises to think lean and innovatively to help growth in their business ventures.

Salimi: "We teach people how to fish, not hand them a fish. The skills participants acquire at our training sessions can be applied throughout their careers. Our goal is to get our clients to increase their Lean Awareness through the practical application of a well documented, proven Lean approach to Operational Excellence."

Salimi said the course will benefit those businesses involved in services, construction, manufacturing, healthcare and areinterested to eliminate waste and reduce costs at the same timeimprove their operations in terms of productivity, resource utilization and become environmentally friendly.

He pointed out that many successful companies are implementing this system in the UAE. "Ducab in Dubai is applying Lean to its operations; Oracle Corp. in the Middle East also has employees familiar with and interested in the application of Lean principles. Most recently, select employees at the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce also received introductory training.

Certificates of completion are provided for each course and workshop attended, which can be used to fulfil the education requirements for submission of an application for professional certification as a Lean Sensei per the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Association for Manufacturing Excellence, Shingo Prize, and American Society for Quality,
