Qatar University College of Law (QU-LAWC) held a welcoming ceremony on January 7 to honor Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd during his visit to Qatar.  The event also included a presentation by LAWC students on their Moot Court experiences as well as one by faculty detailing the College's programs, courses and opportunities for students.

Lord Thomas was greeted by QU President Prof Sheikha Abdulla Al-Misnad, LAWC dean Dr Mohamed Al Khulaifi, faculty and students.  In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of the Rule of Law and access to justice for all peoples.

Students Noor Al Mullah and Haneen Yousef presented insights into students' participation in Moot Court competitions at LAWC and abroad and shared their individual experiences.  LAWC assistant professor Dr Jon Truby outlined the College's efforts to prepare well-qualified law graduates to enter the labor market, and its commitment to advancing legal education in Qatar and the region.

Dr Al Khulaifi noted that in a short 8 years, the college was transformed into a competitive center of legal education in Qatar and in our region.   "We did this by reforming our curriculum, adopting a vibrant research culture and offering students a competitive learning experience.  Our courses reflect not only the history and the vision of Qatar, but also the contemporary challenges facing the country", he said.

Dr Truby said: "Lord Thomas' visit was an invaluable opportunity to highlight our legal education practices and many activities in promoting and educating students and the community on rule of law in Qatar.  His remarks stressed the importance of robust legal and judicial education and we look forward to continued cooperation between the legal sectors in UK and Qatar in this regard."
