- Distinctive Tangiers Orange G4 cars to be available soon in the Middle East -

Land Rover Middle East and Africa celebrated its success of the first ever Global G4 Challenge and announced it will import 40 G4 limited edition vehicles for sale in this region.

The Challenge covered four time zones, with each of the four Land Rover products – Range Rover, Discovery, Defender and Freelander - used for each stage, and the performance of the vehicles in some of the world’s toughest driving conditions was the biggest success story from the month-long event.

Mr. Marwan Halabi, Regional Marketing Manager, Jaguar & Land Rover Middle East and Africa, said: “We are extremely pleased with the enthusiastic response received to the contest and are proud that Team Arabia achievedsecond position. The G4 Challenge further reiterates Land Rover’s commitment of creating, inspiring and delivering adventure for everyone.  The success of the Challenge attributes to the unmatched performance and capability of Land Rover vehicles in handling the toughest terrains across the globe.”

Assad Masoud, Land Rover’s Middle East and Africa G4 Challenge organizer, added: “The event underlined Land Rover’s spirit of adventure and the variants of the Tangiers Orange G4 Challenge vehicles will soon be available in this region for consumers.”

Although identical to the Land Rover models sold in the dealer showrooms in the UAE, there are some obvious added accessories on the Land Rover G4 Challenge vehicles.  They are fitted with a range of optional expedition equipment including winches, roof racks and GPS units, enabling the cars to cope with the extreme off road challenges.

Land Rover’s announcement follows the success of Arabia’s representative Chris Perry who finished second in the grueling event. Perry won the right to represent Arabia after winning a tough regional qualification event. He went on to compete against 15 of the world’s fittest men and women.

The event was launched in New York’s Time Square, followed by four days in upstate New York where temperatures dipped to as low as –20. The five-door version of Land Rover’s award-winning SUV, Freelander, was used for this first stage.

In contrast, temperatures of 30 degrees greeted the competitors for the second leg in South Africa’s Cape Province where the Defender was used for some of the most difficult off-road driving conditions on the Challenge.

But the G4 Challenge was more than just a test of driving endurance as competitors were put though tough mountain bike tracks, a technical kayak course as well as working out the best strategy to tackle each day’s challenges.

After two strong legs, Arabia was well positioned in third going into the pen-ultimate stage in Australia where the versatility and capability of the all-new Range Rover was tested in the unforgiving Outback. After four days of harsh desert driving, the event moved into the heart of Sydney and to one of the most spectacular legs culminating with competitors steering a Range Rover through an obstacle course on a barge floating in the shadows of the Harbour Bridge.

With Perry still leading Arabia’s charge for victory, the final round of the month long adventure concluded in the barren deserts surrounding Las Vegas, where competitors drove through the colourful landscape of sandstone canyons in the Land Rover Discovery.

This imposing vehicle with electronic fittings, such as electronic traction control, anti-lock brakes, electronic traction and hill descent control – made it not only safe on the road, but almost invincible off-road.

After four weeks of intense competition that took 16 of the world’s fittest men and women on a grueling multi-sport adventure across the planet, Dubai-based Chris Perry finished just 20 seconds behind Belgian fighter pilot Rudi Thoelen who took home a new Range Rover.
