Larsen & Toubro Heavy Engineering LLC (L&THE LLC), completes yet another major landmark in the field of critical pressure vessel manufacturing in Sultanate of Oman with the dispatch of 6 sets of Steam Accumulators (part of a larger order of 19 sets, 5000 MT ) each weighing 260 MT & 106 thick low alloy steel. These critical equipment are Oman's unique contribution towards export of Omani product for a large Solar Power Plant in South Africa.
The Steam Accumulators are High Pressure Vessels being manufactured with a critical grade of Quenched and Tempered Steel, the likes of which are used in the manufacturing of some of the most critical equipment for Nuclear Power Plants. The highlights through the execution has seen one of the largest imports of high grade steel adding up to more than 5,000 MT, besides by the end of the year the company will be delivering all 19 sets adding up to 4,940 MT of completed equipment, within a span of 11 months.
L&THE LLC won this order against stiff global competition from South Korean and European fabricators; the challenge has been the critical nature of the equipment and the tight delivery schedule. The company has been able to rise to the occasion through various innovative techniques in the field of manufacturing, welding, inspection, logistics and planning.L&T HE partnered with M/s Lift & Shift EME LLC for transportation of this heavy consignment from their workshop to Sohar Port.
The project as offered enriching experience & exposure to young and talented team of Omanis, lending an insight into areas ranging from Supply Chain Management to logistics to the Innovative manufacturing techniques to Critical equipment in spection.This is a part of contribution by a local company in developing local industry, critical skills, promoting non-oil sector exports and economy of Oman as a whole. The company is actively involved in running vocational courses in collaboration with Vocational Training Centre, Shinaz, developing local SMEs and rendering technical consultancies to local process industry.
L&THE LLC is committed to bring Sohar, Oman on world map as a hub for critical equipment manufacturing and promoting Made in Oman brand aggressively in the global arena. As per company management this is the only facility in MENA region approved by Chevron for manufacturing of critical reactors for refineries.
Few months ago the company was in the news for delivering the Wet Gas Scrubber to the Sohar Refinery and was major contributor towards plant operations before schedule.
L&T HE LLC established in 2008 as a joint venture with The Zubair Corporation of Oman and Larsen & Toubro - an India based $14Bn technology, engineering, manufacturing and construction conglomerate.
