One week left to apply to the largest math and science competition in Kuwait
Full scholarship to AUK and cash prizes for winners
Kuwait, November 28, 2010 - The Kuwait Science Fair, the largest science competition held in Kuwait for students in grades 7 to 12, announced today that it has so far visited more than 30 schools in Kuwait as part of the competition's nation-wide drive to increase student participation in the third annual Kuwait Science Fair competition.
The Kuwait Science Fair (KSF) competition is endorsed by His Excellency Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Minister of Oil, Minister of Information, and Chairman of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, for the third year in a row. Supporting the competition for the first time, HE the US Ambassador to Kuwait, Mrs. Deborah Jones, joins as its leading chief ambassador to support the efforts of the competition at large.
Kuwait Science Fair Managing Director, Aseel Al-Turkait, said: "The Kuwait Science Fair competition has witnessed great success over the last two years, bringing the number of participants from 100 to 220 students in the second year. We encourage students to join us in a great science adventure, and for a chance to win amazing prizes. We also call on parents and schools to encourage their students to participate. Everyone has a chance to win, at the end of the day, even the simplest science idea can make a big difference."
Enrollment for the competition is open until December 6th, where students must submit the following in order to qualify:
1) Registration form
2) Signed parent letter
3) Science fair proposal
4) A letter from his/her high school confirming attendance
5) A copy of their civil ID or passport
6) One passport size photo.
The competition requirements may be found online at www.best100.org or in the KSF guidebook available at the Kuwait Science Fair booth in Marina Mall. Students must be enrolled in a school in Kuwait. The 'Best 100' projects will be chosen by a panel of judges comprised of teachers and scientists and will be qualified to proceed to the second experimental phase of the competition.
The first prize winner will receive a scholarship in the discipline of the student's choice from AUK, the grand prize trophy, KD 750 in cash, two certificates for participation and ranking, 100KD in vouchers; as well as, an international internship at Schlumberger. The second prize winner will also be offered an internship at Schlumberger in Kuwait and will receive the second place trophy, KD 500 in cash, two certificates for participation and ranking and KD 100 in vouchers. The third prize winner will receive the third place trophy, KD 350 in cash, two certificates for participation and ranking and KD 100 in vouchers.
The competition was founded by ExxonMobil Exploration & Production Kuwait Limited and Kuwait Energy Company and is sponsored in its third year by Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), Kuwait United Facilities Management Company (KUFM), the Information Technology Institute (ITI), The Scientific Center, Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait, Asnan Clinic, and supported by partners: the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science (KFAS), the American University of Kuwait (AUK), Schlumberger and the Arab International Industrial Projects Co.
