Lloyd Register International Limited has approved the renewal of the Sharjah Economic Development Department's ISO9001:2000 Quality Certificate after running several compatibility procedures on the department's main building and select branches.
The evaluation committee recommended that the department's ISO certificate be renewed after seeing the great results achieved within the department and its subsections. The committee's report stated that "the Economic Development Department's quality management is effectively being applied and managed, and the Sharjah Economic Development Department is keen on supporting and providing the resources and requirements needed to maintain the system. The department's quality team has full awareness of the means of development, and moving the department forward".
Said Mr. Ali bin Salim Al Mahmoud, General Manager of the Sharjah Economic Development Department: "We are very proud of the creativity of our staff and their commitment to the their duties, as well as of their ability to not only understand the requirements of economic growth, but also to put these into effect according to the development plans of Sharjah.
"With this accomplishment comes great responsibility, but we are committed to our fundamental standards of providing top quality services, and to creatively and effectively set up programs and strategies that are in line with the unlimited support of the Sharjah leadership," he added.
The inspection procedures included several of the Sharjah Development Department's sections, including Quality and Control, Licenses and Registrations, Commercial Control and Protection, Economic and Public Relations, the Middle Area branch as well as the Kalba branch. The Khourfakan and Daba Al Hisn branches were excluded due to time constraints, but will be examined during forthcoming inspections.
The Sharjah Economic Development Department has updated its quality policy for 2009 through a plan that includes the entire department. The quality policy plan's targets and required resources were set, and will be assessed every three months.
Goals for the Department's various management teams have also been set, and measures, which include the evaluation of clients' paperwork, modifying client satisfaction forms, adding suggestion boxes throughout the department and its sections, and running polls to gather client feedback, has been put in place in order to make the necessary improvements, and to ensure that improvement procedures are run effectively. Electronic Licenses were recently added to facilitate the provision of services to clients.
