Dubai Chamber seminar raises awareness about the importance of applying the concept of corporate social responsibility in the accounting field
Dubai, UAE: As part of its efforts towards raising awareness on responsible business practices, the Dubai Chamber Center for Responsible Business in partnership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) organized a seminar on 'Corporate Social Responsibility for Finance and Accounting Professionals' at Dubai Men's College Auditorium near Academic City on Sunday.
Attended by HE M.K. Lokesh, Indian Ambassador to the UAE, Hassan Al Hashemi, Director, External Relations, Dubai Chamber, Amarjt Chopra, President ICAI New Delhi, Dr B.R. Shetty, Managing Director and CEO, NMC Group and Hanumanth Kumar, Chairman of ICIA - Dubai Chapter, the seminar introduced corporate social responsibility and social accounting, as a concept and outlined the benefits to the participants.
The seminar focused on building the business case for CSR and how being responsible can lead to enhanced business performance and other benefits like enhanced reputation, trust, lower risks, improved organizational efficiencies and employee motivation. The seminar was interactive and provided participants the opportunity to hear from practicing companies on why and how they adopted CSR and their journey from there. The participants also got the chance to network, learn and share experiences with their counterparts representing various reputed Dubai companies.
Dr. Belaid Rettab, Senior Director, Economic Research and Sustainable Business Development Sector, Dubai Chamber sees this partnership with the ICAI as an important step towards raising awareness about CSR among finance and accounting professionals and its implications for reporting, auditing and assurance practices in future.
CA Amarjit Chopra, President ICAI New Delhi, said that ICAI strongly encourages the corporate world towards achieving the Corporate Social Responsibility objectives. He stressed that Chartered Accountants play a dynamic role in overall growth and development of the nation and can be instrumental in adopting and supporting CSR initiatives in an organization.
The Centre for Responsible Business, which was formed in 2004, is the longest standing centre promoting business responsibility in the UAE. The Centre not only assists Dubai Chamber members to apply responsible business practices that enhance performance and competitiveness but also offers a variety of educational, professional training and consulting services that are designed to build individual companies' capacity to implement broad CSR programmes including business ethics, sustainability reporting and corporate governance.
