Wireless information delivery services to be highlights of Info2cell's presence at GITEX 2002
October 11, 2002
Info2cell.com, the region’s first and leading wireless information service provider, will be exhibiting its advanced messaging facilities, including the Jinny Instant Messaging (JIM) Service and Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), at GITEX Dubai 2002.
The highlight of Info2cell.com’s participation in GITEX Dubai will be Jinny Instant Messaging (JIM), the new generation messaging service that is owned and developed by Acotel, the leading Italian web application service provider in Europe, which holds a stake in Info2cell.com. JIM supports and uses SMS, MMS and EMS (Enhanced Messaging Service). The JIM Server allows registered users to communicate anonymously with fellow JIM subscribers through a mobile phone without actually connecting to a computer. All that a user has to do is to choose a username and supply a password, and he can find other subscribers on the network, exchange messages and have multi-subscriber conferences anonymously.
“The highly advanced JIM service brings more versatility and fun into the field of instant messaging, providing enriched content and allowing subscribers to be connected across the world and not necessarily through the computer,” said Bashar Dahabra, Founder and CEO, Info2cell.com. “JIM has many interfaces, including SMS, WAP, PC Microsoft Windows, PDA Windows CE, Palm OS and Java over Unix machines. We feel it offers excellent enchancement to the existing messaging systems and we are proud to offer the Service to our Middle East subscribers.”
JIM offers an amazing range of services, such as creating and modifying one’s profile, simultaneously using more than one account, starting a conference and inviting others to join, viewing profiles of other users, blocking and unblocking other users, exchanging files with other JIM users, hearing the messages you receive and choosing an Arabic or English interface version. It also supports Nokia Smart Messaging, EMS and MMS to be exchanged between mobile and non-mobile JIM users.
Registration to JIM can be done by downloading the JIM client from the Internet and then filling a profile information form and providing a username and email address, or a phone number. The subscriber’s username, phone number and email address are not disclosed to other users.
Info2cell.com is also geared to demonstrate the amazing capabilities of MMS, which facilitates transmission of Multi Media text messages and pictures from mobile to mobile, and between mobile and the Internet, with the launch of the Info2cell.com’s MMS Greeting Card Composer service. The service launched in Jordan offers visitors the opportunity to experience the amazing MMS greeting cards that have been developed by Info2cell.com’s MMS Content Development Center in Amman. MMS Greeting cards in over 10 categories are offered with the ability to add a personalized message accompanied by pre-recorded music.
“MMS is the next big step in the development of instant data delivery revolution that is sweeping the globe and Info2cell.com is fully geared to offer this service to subscribers once the operators are ready to launch it,” said Dahabra. “Acotel, Jinny and Info2cell.com are committed to MMS. We have been working on the development of MMS services in the region since the beginning of this year. We have launched MMS in Italy in June 2002 and have already had over 1,200,000 downloads in the last three months. This was crowned with the launch of the first MMS commercial trials in the Middle East with Fastlink in Jordan back in September 2002, utilizing a Jinny MMSC. The first MMSC to be developed in the ME region was developed by Jinny in collaboration with development teams in Rome, Beirut and Ireland,” added Dahabra
At Gitex Dubai 2002, Info2cell.com will also showcase its complete range of SMS services, including the real-time stock quotes and currency exchange rates available to subscribers in five countries in the Middle East. As a dominant wireless information service provider in the region, Info2cell.com offers varied instant information to subscribers in 250 categories in the UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar and Kuwait through five GSM operators. The company will also highlight its Breaking News SMS services in Arabic and English, which have gained more than 100,000 subscribers across the Middle East region. Visitors will also get to experience the thrill of Info2cell.com’s another new service that brings real-time sports updates to mobile phone users.
