Doha, Qatar: In an effort to try and make Ramadan extra-special for children at Hamad Hospital the International Bank of Qatar (IBQ) today hosted a Garanagou 'The Festival of the Children' party, at Hamad Hospital's Children's Ward.
A group of IBQ employees gathered at Hamad Hospital's Children's Ward in celebration of the occasion and handed out Garangaou bags and gifts to the children.
'As IBQ expands, we continue to encourage our staff to participate within the community whether through financial contributions or time. At IBQ we are truly committed to playing an active role in promoting community initiatives and raising awareness of noble causes, throughout Qatar,' said Michael H. Williams, CEO of IBQ.
Garangaou is a special Qatari tradition for children and is celebrated on the 14th of Ramadan. Garangaou is a time where it is customary for children to dress up in traditional gowns and visit neighbours and friends chanting songs and prayers for the wellbeing of the residents of the house. In return the children are presented with an abundance of nuts and sweets.
Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Abdul-Rahman Al-Dosari, Director of the Public Relations Department at Hamad Medical Corporation said, 'we would like to thank IBQ for their commitment and participation with these kinds of social activities and occasions that bring much joy and happiness to our children. This is a clear indication that the bank's management believes in the importance of building long-lasting relationships with the community.'
