Students show interest in working in Dubai and contributing to its growth

Dubai, October 1, 2007: Hyder Consulting, the award-winning engineering, environmental, planning and management consultancy, recently, hosted 19 post-graduate students from the Mirvac School of Sustainable Development of Bond University in Australia on a visit to Burj Dubai at Downtown Burj Dubai, the mega-project developed by Emaar Properties.

The students were accompanied by Alan Cartwright of Hyder Consulting, as well as Professor Jim Smith and Associate Professor Andrew Leicester of Bond University.

"This is a world class project and we are proud to be involved in its development. It is heartening to see that the project has generated considerable interest amongst foreign students and we are happy to show these future leaders what Dubai is capable of achieving," commented Alan Cartwright, Major Projects Director, Hyder Consulting Middle East.

Hyder Consulting was appointed by Emaar as Architect of Record and Supervision Consultant for the Burj Dubai, responsible for certification and adoption of the SOM design, with full responsibility for all architectural, structural, MEP, geotechnical, and facades design, as well as peer review and construction supervision. The company also implemented the detailed master planning and infrastructure design for Downtown Burj Dubai.

A presentation on the context, design and construction of the iconic tower was given by Hyder Consulting's Alan Cartwright at the site office. A question and answer session followed the presentation where the students were given the opportunity to inquire about several aspects of Hyder Consulting's operations and developments in the region. The visit culminated at the Burj Dubai presentation centre allowing the students to see a mock-up of an apartment and a large model of the completed tower.
