COMEX provides platform for pan-regional Omani innovation in ICT and cyber security
Muscat: Huawei Enterprise, a global information and communications technology provider, will underpin its commitment to supporting Omani innovation in information and communication technology at this year's COMEX, Oman (March 25 to 29th). Huawei Enterprise will showcase a wide portfolio of enterprise solutions which are designed to support SME growth, government sector integration, and data protection, backing government and private sector objectives of establishing the Sultanate as a knowledge-based economy and an entrepreneurial centre of excellence.
The Information Technology Authority (ITA) of Oman, a long standing partner of Huawei, has made great strides in its effort to drive cyber security capabilities in the region. At this year's COMEX expo Huawei Enterprise will seek to build-on and extend its relationships with Omani government bodies with a specific focus on bolstering enterprise network and data security while at the same time empowering the flourishing Omani SME segment to fully capitalise on the connectivity provided by broadband LTE (4G) technology to offices, homes and users on the move.
Tony Luo, General Manager of Huawei Technologies, Oman, said ahead of the event: "As the gap between the supply of, and demand for, faster connectivity closes we see organisations across the region look for ways to effectively adopt the latest global technology trends into their operational and management processes. Cloud based solutions, network virtualisation, network convergence and IP communications are very quickly becoming the tools that enable SMEs and large enterprises to revolutionise the way their employees interact with one another and with their customers at home and abroad."
Greater and wider connectivity for Oman means greater exposure to more complex cyber risks, a situation the ITA has taken a proactive approach to by encouraging innovation and knowledge sharing in the field. Huawei Enterprise has also taken this approach by developing solutions that are intrinsically built-in with security protocols that ensure, no matter how fast an enterprise's ICT infrastructure evolves, that secure access to its network and integrity of its data remain intact. Huawei recently received the 'Middle East Product Innovation Award' from Frost & Sullivan in recognition of its achievements in the region's network security market.
Huawei first established its presence in the region more than one decade ago and has since made major break-through in Oman, building the country's backbone network in 2003, that today facilitates means for government entities, businesses and people to stay connected over a number platforms from fixed lines, 2G, 3G to 4G technology. Through strong alliances with local telecom operators Huawei will continue to support the overall mission to develop a robust and modern telecom infrastructure that will solidify the Sultanate's position as an international business destination.
Also at COMEX, in recognition of the thriving vertical industries that characterise modern economic growth in Oman, Huawei will be showcasing its solutions in the smart oilfield sector for the energy industry; its virtual mini branch (VMB) solutions for the banking and financing industry; its automatic meter interface (AMI) for the utility industry; its GSM-R solution for the transportation sector; its unified communication solutions and emergency command centre for the government sector, as well as telepresence solutions developed for use in all industry sectors. Huawei's range of customised smart devices will also be displayed at the stand which is located at 306.
