• Huawei’s innovation day also featured an exhibition hall showcasing the latest in digital technologies ranging from E-learning to Smart Cities, video Cloud Solution, and Mobile Payments.

[Cairo, Egypt] – Under the patronage of the Egyptian Minister of Communication & Information Technology, Huawei, the leading global ICT solution provider, hosted today its second annual Innovation Day for North Africa in Egypt under the theme of “Innovate for Digital North Africa”. This year’s Innovation day event covered the most important pillars which drive digital transformation which are Talents, Cooperations, and Innovation. The event also addressed how North Africa can best reap the benefits of nation digitalization. The event presented a video with a name of “Exploration Egypt” that shows the importance of the digital transformation and how it did change the life Egyptian society.

Dr. Hossam Osman, Advisor to the Egyptian Minister of Information & Communication Technology, stated: “The digital transformation and building an infrastructure for information technology is the ministry’s main priority. The government’s vision is to digitally transform all aspects of the society including the governmental services through the usage of the latest disruptive technologies and Huawei is a true partner to Ministry’s vision”.

“To build an open, dynamic ecosystem for shared success, all parties need to collaborate, including governments, industry organizations, enterprises, universities, and other academic institutions. Huawei upholds the "platform + ecosystem" strategy in order to provide a fertile environment in which a sound ecosystem can develop. In Cairo, we have built the first OpenLab in North Africa. Based on Huawei's global experience and value chain, this OpenLab is partnering with local companies to conduct joint innovation. It aims to promote the sustainable development of the ICT ecosystem in Egypt, the Middle East, and North Africa” said Mr. Cao Jibin, the president of the Northern Africa Region of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.

During the event, a positioning paper was launched by Huawei Technologies with the name of “Dynamic and Healthy Development of ICT Industry Needs Support and Guidance from Governments”. The position paper states that ICT has the transformative power to boost sustainable socio-economic development. The study also highlight that governments have a vital role to play in forming a favorable environment for the dynamic and healthy development of the ICT industry.

Arab Information and Communication Technologies Organization has also announced a white paper in collaboration with Huawei, with the name of "ICT as Basic National Policy: Build Solid Foundation for Arab Digital Society". The white paper highlights how the ICT has been able to break through the barriers of distance, terrain, and time, taking mobile communications into areas that were previously unreachable. The study shed-the-light on the importance of providing Universal broadband coverage to all people in the remotest of rural villages in Arab Countries, in which this technology will give the governments the platform to provide electronic services to across the nation. Electronic services are not limited to mobile money, e-Health, e-Education, e-Government, Smart Agriculture and Smart City, which empower people, industry, and society for a better connected world.

The innovation day also featured an exhibition hall showcasing the latest in digital technologies ranging from E-learning to Smart Cities, video Cloud Solution, and Mobile Payments.

The event showcased current challenges and their solutions through digital transformations and shed light on successful case studies and applications through this global movement.
